1.74 Scoring Systems

Just testing 1.74

Really like the scoring system (inherit) options to be able to create a bespoke scoring system from
a 'sound' base.
Was a bit thrown when my bespoke system did not show in the series data on the left until I learnt
that it changes after the first time you score the series.

Creating a new series however does not list my bespoke scoring system as an alternative to My App A.

I can live with copying the file from the last time I used the bespoke system but it would be nice
if I did not need to delete all the previous regatta data.

Regards
Ralph

Hi Ralph,

Yes, the scoring systems are local to each series. There will be a
library/load/save facility for them (and everything else) but it's not there
yet. NB the scope rules are:-

1. Everything defined in Setup+GlobalOptions is common to all series.
2. Everything else is series-specific, (hence the grouping in the setup
menu).

I think the inheritance is OTT as it stands, scoring systems that are value
specific should inherit but the main list should probably be independent for
clarity. I also think the value specific scoring systems should be
available as a list 'inside' the host system, again for clarity about what's
happening. It's a bit too much of a free-4-all at present. I know I get
confused which would tend to imply the UI is not very good at the moment.

Regards,
Colin

Hi Colin

"I think the inheritance is OTT as it stands "
After 2 secs of panicking as to why all the options were greyed out, I liked it!!

From the very early days, SW has always been easy to use if you just go through each menu/option &
ask yourself if it needs changing. The scoring system inherit method is really great because if you
start with a good My App A, you are unlikely to transfer bad practices/ideas to other regattas.

Ralph
