2.8.5 Install problems

Hi all

IN a little bit of a rush but I ran the download for 2.8.5 this morning and it went OK - no issues. However went to open Sailwave and it just hangs then after a while comes back with a message about a problem connecting to the server.

Any clues?

Thanks

Hi Richard,
But you can still continue OK?

In the Global options on the Upgrades tab there is a check box to Check for new versions when starting Sailwave - This requires an internet connection. I quess when you get this message there is a problem with the internet connection to the Sailwave server.

Can you browse to www.sailwave.com when this message appears.

I have a good internet connection and can browse to sailwave.com

I have opened 2.8.5 and clicked on help>check if new software is available and sailwave hangs

Strange?

Richard,

Could it be a problem with your Sailwave desktop shortcut? If you right click on the shortcut, does it show something like "C:\Program Files (x86)\Sailwave\sailwave.exe"

If you press the Windows button, then All Programs, look for Sailwave, click and run Sailwave from there, do you get the same behaviour?

I have now gone back to basics

  1. Back up all previous Sailwave stuff

  2. Removed Sailwave from computer (using Control Panel)

  3. Downloaded 2.8.5 and started it up

  4. Screen appeared with “circular type” motion cursor and remained for 8 minutes

  5. ..after 8 minutes

  1. But 2.8.5 Sailwave screen has appeared – I have not tested to see whether it works

Maybe something happening at the backend

I will let you know whether there are any further issues

Hi Richard,

Agree - it is not an internet problem - as you should get a message from Sailwave and it should not hang. It looks like something else.

Give me a call on Landline 03333 443377 if you like and we can try and work it out

In the Global Options turn off the box to check for updates. It’s a bit primitive and is not elegant if there are temporary connectivity problems. CJ.

Just tried it - If I check the `Check for Updates' box, SW hangs on start up.

Just leave unchecked, not really necessary.
