It is that time of year here in the UK that the RYA release the yearly base Portsmouth Yardstick Numbers, having analysed the data returned by clubs and events since the last release in February 2023.
The new Sailwave compatible files for both PY List & PY Limited List are scheduled to be available for download from the Sailwave website from around 12 noon today Saturday 23rd February 2024.
Hi SUG Members,
Quick follow-up that should have been in the original post.
It is suggested that you do not start using the new numbers if you are in the middle of a series, as there is the potential that series results will be change due to PN number for a class being changed.
The official RYA spreadsheet & PDF files should appear on RYA web site soon (portsmouth-yardstick).
Has anyone noticed that the RYA have changed the format of a number of CLASS names the RS boats no longer have spaces Merlin has lost its hyphen and the Canoe International in now International Canoe. I don’t know if this is Intentional but for those of us who roll the series files forward to another season makes it a pain. If we want our returns to match the RYA classes we will need to amend our series files.
It can only be good if a nationally (and internationally) uniform set of class names is used. Part of going to this has to be a certain amount of updating by those changing to conform. It is only a pain once and removes a lot of possible errors over handicaps, results etc.
