With the changes in RRS44.3 do you plan to issue an update to Sailwave or do we need to do something ourselves?
Thanks
PJ
Hi Paul,
I was not aware of any change to the wording of RRS 44.3 from the previous version of RRS.
Sailwave has been compliant to best of my knowledge with RRS 44.3 since 2021.
In case I have missed something please expand
Kind regards,
Huw
Huw,
The old 44.3(c) is places rounded to 0.5. the new 44.3(c) is points rounded to 0.1. I thought that may need a tweak in the program
PJ
Hi Paul,
Thanks for that I had missed that minor change

Hi Huw.
Rule 44.3(c) rounds to the nearest tenth of a point rather than a whole number.
(c) The race score for a boat that takes a Scoring Penalty shall be the score she would have received without that penalty, made worse by the number of points places stated in the notice of race or sailing instructions. When the number of points places is not stated, the penalty shall be 20% of the score for Did Not Finish, rounded to the nearest tenth of a point whole number (0.05 0.5 rounded upward). The scores of other boats shall not be changed; therefore, two boats may receive the same score. However, the penalty shall not cause the boat’s score to be worse than the score for Did Not Finish.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the information which I missed when reading through 2025-208 RRS
Over to Jon.

Huw, Pleasure there are also some changes in scoring codes. I was preparing for an event in 10 days time and noticed it.
Thanks as always
PJ
Hi Paul,
Just checked RRS 2025-2028 AppA and all codes there are in Sailwave and some extras.
Scoring code DCT from RRS App F8 A10 is not in Sailwave
Other codes I am aware of being used but not in Sailwave are
TLE (which has some problems)
from RRS Appendix T a code frequently used of PRP
Look forward to being enlightened as to what I have missed in my scanning of new RRS and also any scoring calculation methods might have missed.
Kind regards,
Huw
Also impacts any Scoring Penalty calculated as stated in rule 44.3(c). e.g. ZFP
HI SUG members,
The change in rounding has highlighted some nuances about several scoring methods which had not ben considered previously.
- when a version of Sailwave is released which rounds to nearest 0.1 point, re-scoring an old series will potentially change the series ranks and at least change total points & Nett Points
- what scoring method is to be used for a series that started before 1st January 2025 but continues after this date - probably depends on wording of NoR/SI’s for series
- there are several scoring methods in Sailwave which are not currently capped and if they were what should cap be (see dotted arrows in image below)
An email has been sent to a couple my RRS contacts for advice.
Kind regards,
Huw
Hi
There is a slight misunderstanding here
All Percentage points are and have previously been capped at DNF
The image I sent you was what I had changed in version 2.37 to round to one decimal point in place of the nearest point shown with a solid arrow so as to meet the new RRS requirements
The ones with dotted arrows are the ones that I need to decide how they are rounded in 2.37+ i.e. do they move to rounding to 1 decimal place or stay at nearest integer as they are not directly covered in the RRS
Are there any implications for other scoring such as HighPoint scoring?
I was thinking about putting the scoring of the SCP to be configurable to rounding of 0.1 or whole numbers so that you could score older series as if I release a Sailwave with the new rounding - then rescoring of older series will be scored incorrectly
Jon
Hi Jon,
Thank you for clarification and my apologies for getting it wrong.
Kind regards,
Huw
