I'm responsible for "The 49er European Championship 2002" results.
I've tried to find a proper scoring software, but so far I've not
seen any who don't make me do alot of manual work... As you will see
from the scoring part of "sailing instructions" (enclosed under),
it's not quite simple.
Do anyone have any suggestions ? The 49er Worlds just finished, and
they said scoring was a nightmare... I hope to avoid that !
The scoring sections is enclosed here :

*******************************************************************
6.1 Qualifying Series
a) Racing in the Qualifying series shall take place in groups of
20 to 40 boats with approximately equal ability. The initial
allocation shall be made by the Organising authority on the basis of
the current ISAF Ranking List, recent results and any other relevant
information. This allocation shall be final and shall not be grounds
for granting redress.
Each competitor's assignment to a group shall be notified on the
Notice Board at least 1½ hrs before the start on a racing day.
b) Overall standings
An overall standing shall be established in which a boat's standing
will be the sum of her scores for all races after discards as per SI
16.4. The boat with the lowest score will head the overall standing.
Overall standings shall only include an equal number of races for all
boats, the highest number of completed races for all groups
determining the number of races to be included.
c) Daily re-allocation of groups
At the end of racing each day and if all boats have completed at
least one race the boats will be allocated to new groups based on the
overall standings at that time. If an unequal number of races have
been completed the re-allocation will be based on the highest number
of completed races for all groups. However the group(s) with the
lower number of races will race the missing races first, after which
racing will proceed in new groups re-allocated on the basis of the
overall standings at the end of the previous day.
d) Designation of groups
Depending on the number of entries, the groups shall be
designated "yellow" "blue" "red" and "green" and be identified by a
flag/pennant of the respective colour.
There will be no Group identification tags on the boats (fleets will
not be racing simultaneously on the same course).
e) Courses will be set for a race to last approximately 30
minutes.
f) Points carried forward
Each boat's overall position at the completion of the Qualifying
series shall be carried forward to the Final series as one score.
6.2 Final Series
a) When at the end of the Qualifying series five or more races
have been completed in all groups a Final series shall be sailed.
Racing in the Final series will take place in the same number of
groups established from the overall standings of the Qualifying
series. The number of boats in the Gold group will be 25 boats.
The Qualifying series will be continued as long as necessary to reach
the minimum number of five races and to ensure the same number of
races for all groups. This may alter the Schedule in SI 5.1.
b) Identification of groups
Depending on the number of entries, the groups shall be
designated "Gold fleet" (yellow), "Silver fleet" (blue), "Bronze
fleet" (red) and "Emerald fleet" (green) and be identified by a
flag/pennant of the respective colour.
There will be no Group identification tags on the boats
(fleets will not be racing simultaneously).
c) Courses will be set for a race to last approximately 30
minutes.
16. SCORING
16.1 The Low Point scoring system of RRS Appendix A, as changed
below, will apply. 5 races are required to be completed to constitute
a qualifying series, and 3 races to constitute a Final series. The
overall regatta result is based on the results of the final series.
When the final series is not properly constituted the result will be
based on the qualifying series result.
16.2 Each boat starting and finishing in a race, and not
thereafter retiring or being disqualified, will be scored points as
per RRS A 4.1. In the Qualifying series all other boats will be
scored points for the finishing place one more than the total number
of boats in the biggest group. In the Final series all other boats
will be scored points for the finishing place one more than the total
number of boats in her group. This alters RRS A 4.1.
16.3 Each boat's final series score will be the total of her race
scores obtained in the final series discarding her worst score(s)
(see SI 16.4(c) below) plus the score carried forward from the
Qualifying series as per SI 6.1(f). That score carried forward cannot
be discarded.
16.4 (a) When fewer than 5 races have been completed, a boat's
score shall be the sum of her race scores.
(b) When 5 to 8 races have been completed, a boat's score will be
the total of her race scores excluding her worst score except when
prohibited by RRS A 1.3.
(c) When 9 or more races have been completed, a boat's score will
be the total of her race scores excluding her 2 worst scores except
when prohibited by the RRS.

In short terms, the system is like this :
There shall be qualifying series for four groups
("yellow" "blue" "red" and "green"), and allocation to groups shall
be based upon ISAF ranking.
This is OK, but here comes the trouble : Daily re-allocation of groups
"At the end of racing each day and if all boats have completed at
least one race the boats will be allocated to new groups based on the
overall standings at that time. If an unequal number of races have
been completed the re-allocation will be based on the highest number
of completed races for all groups. However the group(s) with the
lower number of races will race the missing races first, after which
racing will proceed in new groups re-allocated on the basis of the
overall standings at the end of the previous day."
After this qualifying series, boats shall be divided into 4 fleets
(Gold, Silver, Bronze and Emerald), to race the FINAL series. This is
quite simle, since each fleet dont compete with each other....
Will Sailwave help me with these "problems", and do you have any
suggestions for how to do it ?
