Adding an addional drop for an individual

Hello,

Last year our Fleet hired a person to run the committee boat. The quality of the races has improved greatly over the years when we used to take turns doing committee boat and would receive a series average.

Last week our hired person could not do committee boat. Our Fleet Captain stepped up to the plate and did not race and did Committee boat so that we could have a race.

We initially scored him series average for committee boat duty as we had done in the past. A couple of members have suggested giving our Fleet Captain a discard for the race in which he was on the committee boat would be more equitable.

Does anyone know how I would go about scoring an individual discard, or a code equivalent to a discard for one race. The drop profile which we use seems to apply globally.

Thanks,

I don't think you can have a different number of discards for different competitors under Sailwave but someone else can opine better on that.

If you are using the standard Low Point System from App. A then simply assigning a score of zero (0) points for the race at issue will be mathematically equivalent to that race being discarded (and one would presume that is what you want). Of course, it may not seem equitable (it doesn't to me) to give someone a better position then the boat that actually won that race but that may be an incentive you want to give to get people to volunteer to be PRO.

If you give average points (which seems MUCH fairer to me but then that is a personal preference) you should be sure it is an average AFTER discards. The normal rule is "before" discards to mimic sailing ability but in this case you want to make the missed race to "not count" and you can do that by using the average AFTER discards.
