Our club races a number of different dinghy fleets and in most uses the Victorian yardstick when different classes are in the same fleet. We are also looking to add individual handicaps results as well, but I’m not sure where to start. Any help in pointing me in right direction would be appreciated.
One possibility is the NHC system, now incorporated as an option in Sailwave.
Search back in the forum archives for correspondence on NHC.

If you mean calculate personal handicap (PH) results at the same time as Victorian or another scheme then take a look at using aliases for the PH results. (Your aliased competitors would have their results calculated using PH, for example.)
If you are looking to adjust PH race by race then NHC is where to look.

I see Malcom has kindly responded to you but just to expand on his reply. You don’t say how you would like the individual handicaps to be implemented.
One possibility is to have a fixed personal handicap which is decided for the series either by committee or by some algorithm from previous results. Sailwave could then produce 2 sets of results for each race/series using the standard and personal handicaps.
You only need to enter the results for each race once. By using Aliases Sailwave assigns the results automatically for the other handicap. There are some links to a video on the forum demonstrating the setting up of Aliases if you don’t already know how to do it.
Secondly there are some features built into Sailwave that adjusts the personal handicap - You can find this on the tools menu
so you could adjust them using this
Thirdly there is what is known as a progressive handicap which automatically changes after each race.
Sailwave has NHC2013 built in - have a look around this forum and on the Sailwave site there is lots information and links to the RYA site on this.
Sailwave however also has the ability to use Excel templates to specify the algorithms that are used so you can implement any (virtually any) rules that you want to apply. The end user does not get involved in using excel but the person that designs the template needs a good understanding of Excel. There is a recent posting of the Template for the proposed NHC calculations for 2014 on this site.

I had an email from the RYA about 2 hours ago saying that they intend to go with the settings as they are in this template
and to clarify
···
To confirm we are dropping the regatta module.
At least 3 boats need to have finished for any adjustments or calculations to be applied.
Only boats that take part in a race should have their handicap realigned.
Boats should have their handicap realigned against their base number regardless as to which series they are in i.e. even 10 series forward the base number is the comparison.
So if you want to do NHC 2014 now then you can go with this using the template in the above mentioned post.
The last statement that boats have to be realigned against the base number means that you must enter the base number into the rating for that boat and then must set the rating for race 1 to be the rating that boat starts the series with - this is different to previous as these were the same. You will now have to enter two handicaps for each boat starting.
Now that the spec is defined I will build it into Sailwave I hope to have the built in functions of Sailwave written in a few weeks time but for anyone who wants to go now the Template previously posted will work perfectly and is available now.
