Adjusting handicaps to make results more equitable

How do I use Sailwave to adjust handicaps for boats who have completed a number of races to make them more equitable? We have a number of racers who are always way ahead of the pack - rather consistently. We wish to make educated adjustments based on history. The races are arbitrary, with a number of different classes competing.

Thanks,

Hi Michael,

Are asking how you can manually adjust the ratings or do you wish to do this automatically after each race?

You can change the rating as shown in the Rating box below individually for any competitor

You can also change the rating for any race for a specific competitor. This can be for this race only or all subsequent races until you change it again

You can assign personal handicaps from the Tools menu using th Assign Personal Handicaps

If you want to adjust the ratings automatically after each race using some more complex algorithm you can use the NHC system in external mode. Here you can use an Excel template to define the rules for calculating the new ratings to any specification you can define with Excel. Read up about the NHC external mode on the Sailwave site and many posts here.

Let us know if doesn’t answer your question
