hi, could somebody with an apple mac and
non-ubuntu linux do a test
if not installed already download/install the adobe air runtime:-

run this installer which is a little test app i created:-
when run it just shows a windows with “hello world” on it
seems to work on xp, vista, ubuntu so far
gone off python/qt - figued most people would know javascript/php and i
do to - and integrates great with a community website

Works on openSUSE 11.2 32-bit using Adobe AIR 1.5.3.9130
After little bit of working out how to install your little test app 
thanks. after installing the Air runtime - I went
to the URL and it installed auto on Ubuntu - what was the issue?
The problem I had was installing hte runtime which i discovered was
chmod + x adobeairinstaller.bin; sudo adobeairinstaller.bin in the end.
