Alternate Sail Numbers

An observation, which might prevent others being caught out.

For our recent Falmouth Classics Regatta, all the participants were issued with number boards. Lots of them didn't have sail numbers (well, they don't race except maybe once a year, so why bother?), and I decided to treat the number boards as an Alternate Sail Number, so that Sail num Wizard could pick that up. Sadly that doesn't work. The absence of Sail Numbers means that the 'alternative' isn't seen. Of course I hadn't tested it beforehand so we had the joy of clicking on each cell individually and entering the times.

Lessons to be learned: don't second guess Sailwave; test it before you go on the water (and well before you have loaded all the participants).

I'll think about using the Board number as a Bow number next time. And I'll test it!

And yes, we all had a wonderful regatta.

Hi Malcolm,

I don’t understand what your problem was as there is no problem with having only an alternative Sailno and no Sailno.

This works fine with the Sailno wizard.

I’ve just retested it just in case. Although if they didn’t have a Sailno then you could have put it into the Sailno field anyway.

If you use the Sailno wizard it treats both the Sailno and Alt Sailno as a Sailno and it will accept either as the same competitor

Additionally you could use the Menu - Tools - Set competitor field to copy the Alternative Sailno to the Sailno field

If you would like me to look at the reason you have an issue then if you could share the blw file I’ll have a look

Regards

Jon
