Announcement: Committee Boat Suite

All,

A few weeks ago I wrote that a friend was working on a new software suite to do some of the jobs on the committee boat deck. One of the original design goals was to have a system that could be interfaced with Sailwave, both in importing competitors, and exporting finish times.

I'm happy to announce the availability of this software. This is an early beta release, and is only being announced on the Sailwave group.

Here is a brief summary:
Committee Boat Suite is a deck aid for the race officer. Pre-plan race courses, import competitors from Sailwave and predict course times based on boat polars. CBS will also do a verbal countdown of races, time the race, update predicted race times based on mark times, and record finish times (which can be exported to Sailwave). While Committee Boat Suite will work well as a stand-alone system, it can also be used in conjunction with Sailwave race scoring software. Committee Boat Suite is freeware.

Here's the link:

Your testing and feedback would be most appreciated. We have been using this software here at Vallarta Yacht Club for some of our recent races, and it's pretty impressive. Keep in mind this is an early beta, and should be treated as such. As every good race officer knows, nothing is better than a good paper backup!

We hope you all enjoy it, and it enhances your use of Sailwave, the world's best race scoring software!

Andy

Oops, sorry guys. Give it another day. Apparently the current version I just put up has a startup crash.

The new version will be up on the VYC web site tomorrow. Look for one with "122012" in the name.

Whats its core langauage? Whats the hope of putting it on android? 2.1 devices are SO cheap now you could risk dunking them! And they have longer battery lifes than laptops, are easy to run from 12V power using a very cheap adaptor etc…

Callum,

Having followed the link in Andy's announcement it is a Windows XP

and above environment, in an earlier post about 11th December Andy
said about his friend

  • :-) Funny about the Linux compatibility thing - he is

writing it in .NET, and I’ve been trying to point him to the
Mono project, which is a .NET compatibility layer for Linux.
*
There are things that allow Mono (.NET for Linux) apps to run on
Android. There is a Mono for Android web site
. So it may be possible to run the
CBS software on an Android tablet in the future, be great if it did.
Kind regards,
Huw

Just looked at the information in the link I gave and the Mono for

That's something that I've been pushing for. This program runs on top of .NET, and there is a library available for Android. However, the library costs $400, and it's not a direct cross-compile.

Note to Colin: No intention to hijack your group. I'll try to get something set up to take this discussion somewhere else.
