App LE Add C [INTRO]

Hi,

INTRO

···

-----

This an introductory email to an experiment we're just about to run.
Anybody can join in. The goal is to make sure we all understand App LE
Addemdum C - i.e. scoring a major event using flighted qualifying and finals
series - and to make sure that Sailwave can do it in a ressonable way. I
expect to change Sailwave as we go. We will proceed in stages like this:-

CJ will post a message called App LE Add C [XXX].

That message will be my interpretation of a certain stage of setting up
and scoring; and how Sailwave does it; for example an early topic will be
seeding and a later one reassigning flights.

Chitchat will follow (please do not change the message title).

Changes will be made to Sailwave if necessary and uploaded.

More chit chat until nobody has an issue/question.

Then we go to the next stage and CJ will post a message called called App LE
Add C [YYY]

Repeat until we're all experts and the series is scored - I'm not expert at
present and neither is Sailwav.

***** IMPORTANT******
I propose to use a small series concentrate on the **conceptual/functional**
issues (and ignore things like usability problems wuth duplicate sail
numbers etc) and then extend it to a big series to highlight practical
issues - i.e. after we're all experts in the conceptual/functional issues.
Let's try not to get distracted with minutae at first.

THE SERIES
----------

I was going to use Martin's recent series he scored but it's too big, we
need something simple that we can all get into our heads and refer to.
Propose this:-

20 boats in the series with sail numbers 1 to 20.

The boats will be seeded 1-20 according to their sail no.

The 20 boats are split into 4 flights Yellow,Red,Blue,Green for quals.

The 20 boats are split into 4 flights Emerald,Bronze,Silver,Gold for finals.

There at 8 qualification races, 2 per day.

There are 4 finals races, 2 per day.

Also propose to do an alternative finals with just 2 flights (and/or fleets)
Gold and Silver - the reason being that this seems to happen but I'm
convenced it doesn't work! Hopefully I'm wrong.

NEXT
----

Unless there is chit-chat about this post, I'll post the .blw file with the
initial entries and a populated seeding column this afternoon.

PS: this is not about me saying this is how it is - it's more me saying I'm
confused - perhaps those are not confused will straighten things out along
the way - and hopefully others who are confused like me, we'll become
unconfused... (hopefully like I will)!

I may be trying to help score the 49er Worlds from the 26th in Moscow.

The sooner the better for me!

Hi Mike,

Ralph sent me the SIs. It includes some non-standard (but apparently
common) stuff that we can tackle as a veriation in 'the experiment' (why
I've called it an experiment I dont know!) towards the end. I think it's
best we're all talking the same language re stand App LE Add C first...

(I did Russian O'level but can't remember much...!)
