Apparent DNC scoring error

Have now realised there is no error - except for mine in not
calculating the scores correctly. Sorry !! Sailwave is working correctly.
Would still like DNC scoring amended as post.

Simplest way could be to create a fake race - one more than the number planned - in which all competitors get a BYE declaration. BYE = 0 points. Mark the race as non-discardable, so it is the same for everyone [1].

Next, use your favourite spreadsheet to create a file with all competitor details. Include a "Race No" column with the number of your fake race, and a BYE declaration code. The format is described in Sailwave Help. Save it as a file of type CSV.

Finally, import the CSV file [2].

Exclude the fake race when publishing [3].

Caution: you'll have to add late entries to the series manually, or append them to the CSV file and import again.

How to do it
[1] Right click on Race column, click "Edit Race";
      click the Edit icon;
check the box "This race is not discardable"
[2] Menu option is File > Import from CSV file > race results ...
[3] If the series has 7 races and the fake is number 8, click "Just these races" when you publish and enter "1 - 7".

Thanks for your suggestion. I'm not sure I am really computer literate
enough to understand your suggestion.
I manage this at the moment by creating a dummy series with all
possible entries in it, then import from this series to the current
series as boats join the current series. The problem arises when our
results lady tries to put a finish time in for a boat that I haven't
imported, I'm out sailing and she can't complete the results for 1 or
2 boats. This was a real pain, so I decided to enter all possible
boats, but then the DNC scoring is wrong. So I have to take out the
boats that haven't competed at the end of the series - I made a
mistake and deleted an entered boat - it took me 2 hours to go through
all our timesheets and find the finish times for 1 boat and the
re-enter it ??
Your proposal looks very complicated, but I'd like to understand it
better, so please excuse my ignorance in asking the following.
Do I need to create a fake race for every series and start (we have
several series with upto 13 starts), or is thie CSV file an entry file
for the season. CSV files are new territory for me. Would I simply
save the competitor list by publishing it into Excel. Do you mean the
race numbers are somehow included in this file. How would you know
which boats to import from the CSV file ?
My system would work better if there was a DNC option in SW - boats
competing in series + N. But does your method give me an entry file
that SW will automatically access as boats are finished using the SAIL
NUM WIZARD. if so its a real step foward. Sorry for my lack of
computer knowledge.

Unless I completely misunderstand what you are trying to do, I
think you are making it much too complicated. We started years ago with a
single .blw file with ALL competitors in it. Ones we knew would race
every week and even ones we knew we would probably never see again. At
the end of each series, a copy of that file becomes the file for the next
series. We simply clear all results and rename the copied file and we are
ready to go, dragging along every boat that has ever been scored in any race at
the club.

The key to not having all these boats scored as DNC is that we use
the MARK ALL UNSAILED COMPETITORS AS EXCLUDED and the MARK ALL SAILED COMPETITORS
AS INCLUDED functions on the Edit menu to make Sailwave score only those who
have showed up at least once.

When you score a race using the sail number wizard, if you enter a
result for an excluded competitor, he automatically becomes included.

When someone shows up who is not in the file, the sail number
wizard will create a new record for that boat when you click NEW. If the
sail number wizard can’t find the boat, we know they have never raced
with us before and are sure that creating a “new” record is
appropriate.

We also use the HIDE EXCLUDED COMPETITORS function on the View
menu so that we never see the competitors who aren’t racing that
particular race or series.

None of the excluded boats are scored or shown in the published
results.
