appendix a

I just upgraded to 1.95B6. Something happened to my scoring systems
in all of my series files. In the left panel next to Scoring System,
it now says APPENDIX A. It used to say MY SCORING SYSTEM. When I
double click on the left panel to bring up the scoring system, all
that it offers for scoring is low point systems. Whats going on?

It still scores correctly, but I am not able to see or modify my high
point formula.

I posted a screen shot in the files section, file is called appendix A.

On the principle, good idea, as it did not look very professional to display “My scoring system” as default in international regattas results.

In previous versions (1.94 build 27 still on my old laptop), I renamed the default as “ISAF Low Point” when I was opening a new series. I think it is a problem that this could not be changed in the “Global Options”.

Similarly, re-defined scoring systems (i.e. Austrian for a series of regattas for a regional ranking) are (were ?) not available as options for new series.

Intuitively, I should click on “Scoring systems” in the menu toolbar for all the scoring systems, default and user-defined, and on “Series options” to select the scoring system I will use for a series. But it doesn’t work that way…

Peter,

Did you try to modify the scoring system using the button in the menu bar?

Hi,

There is a new User Interface item in the setup menu and an
associated button on the toolbar to control what is seen in various
windows. By default just commonly used facilities are shown. Click
the UI button and enable the hight point scoring options.

The old default scoring system name was "My scoring system" - I
noticed when browsing results on the web that few people actually
renamed this so I changed the default to Appendix A which is probably
true 99% of the time. If not just change the name.

You are correct that scoring systems are local to each series (file) -
everythign is except the global options. The idea behind this is
that series files are portable - the stuff in global options not
affecting scoring in any critical way.

It was envisaged that the
File+NewSeriesUsingOneOfYourSeriesAsAProForma menu would be used to
create new series based on the way you like to have stuff set up.
i.e. create some series to use as "templates" and put them somewhere
safe then use the File+NewSeries.... whenever you want a new series -
in that way all your scoring systems will be populated and named as
appropriate.

Yes, I tried the Scoring System button, same panel pops us only showing Low point systems on the Race scoring tab. Sure wish I had made backups of my series … Am I the only one experiencing this?

Colin,

HURRAY!!! Thanks!! I do not think I would have found that on my own. And thanks also for prodding me to name my scoring system, did not look very professional …

I have been experimenting with tweaking scoring methods to match what had been done manually in my club. I was able to duplicate that method. Question: Is there a way to “import” in a scoring system from one series to another? It would be time saving to get it all developed in one then copy it to all the others.

THANKS AGAIN!

Yeah, there is a good argument that the UI options should self adjust
to how the series is setup but I wanted to ram home the point that it
was there and also I seem to remember try to do taht and finding it was
fraught for some reason. I actually like hiding some stuff that I use
(after I've set it up!) just to get rid of clutter. As you have
discovered the UI options *only* affect visibility of stuff they do not
change any values. This was also a deliberate policy.

The UI window was added because many users were sending feedback that
Sailwave had become too complicated - our of the box it's probably the
most simple its ever been now.

I expect the UI stuff will need some tweaks - its just the first
version of it. For example there should probably a visual indication
in windows where stuff is hidden that - stuff is hidden...

Colin,

Problem is, when a user goes to modify his scoring system and he cant get to it … Causes PANIC, like it did in me! Maybe put a notice on the Race Scoring tab that if you dont see what you normally do here, check you UI?

Is there a way to copy a scoring system to an existing series?

Thanks

Peter
