I've been using Sailwave for a couple of years now with great success. This week, we are likely to have our first arbitration finding that will result in a 40% scoring penalty.
I thought that I'd get a head start and confirm that the ARB code will give me what I expect. I was surprised when the results were quite unexpected.
The situation is that in Race 7 of our summer series, there was a protest filed against two boats, "One Day" which had finished 7th in the race and "The Secret" which had finished 1st. With 13 boats in the division, I expected that the 40% scoring penalty would result in "The Secret" placing 7th and "One Day" placing 10th or 11th. However, when I use the ARB code, both boats are placed 5th. (This results in "One Day" actually placing better with the penalty than without the penalty!)
I checked the Scoring Code 'method' and ARB is shown as "Points for place of (finishing place + N percent of boats included in the series)", where N=40. This sounds like exactly what I'm looking for, but I do not understand the result at all.
What am I doing wrong?
I'll upload the file once I figure out how...

If you send me your file I will take a look and see if what I can
see.

1. It depends on what your NOR and SIs say as arbitration is not
provided for in the rulebook.
2. Often the SIs say "calculate as per rule 44.3." 40% of 13 is 5.2,
which rounds to 5 (assuming calculation per 44.3). It sounds like what
is being displayed is the penalty instead of the resulting score
(finishing place plus penalty).
3. With version 2.8.5 this works fine for me so I don't have any idea
why it doesn't work for you. I would double check the properties but I
don't honestly think that is the problem here.

Thank you for making the .BLW available. Both Jon & I have had a
look at the file and confirm what you were seeing was indeed
happening. So we then started to poke around the configurations.
Jon found that putting a tick beside the '* This is a code where
rule A6b applies…* " gives the expected answer for the two
boats in question. I confirm this.
Note in the next release A6b will be changed to A6.2 to match the
latest rule numbering in the 2013-2016 edition of the ISAF Racing
Rules of Sailing.

Putting a tick in that box solved the problem. I was a little worried at first that the other boats results were not being affected, I expected that they should be and be bumped up positions. However, 44.3c states that the positions of the other boats shall not be affected, so I'm going with that.
I do find it a little confusing that the Scoring Code method implies that it's 'finishing position + penalty', but it doesn't actually calculate this way unless the tick is placed in the box about A6b (A6.2). Perhaps there is some improvement to be had there.
Thanks again for your help. You guys are awesome!
Greg
P.S. Just for the record, I'm using Sailwave version 2.9.7
