I have assigned different flights for each race to competitors.
When editing starts for races, only the flights assigned to the competitors first race are visible. Regardless of the race that I select for editing. The same applies to publishing. Only the value assigneed to the first race is published.
Please can you provide more information, copy of your Sailwave .BLW
file would be useful.
Are you really using flights, i.e .
competitors will re-assigned to flights on a regular
basis - typically after a number of races or a a day of
races?
OR
Are you using round-robin racing where a competitor is
assigned to a colour group - typically one of red, blue,
yellow, green - where the competitor stays in the
colour group for all races but different pairs of colour
groups race against each other in each race?
If the first option - then when assigning competitors to flights
using the the option on the tools menu one can set for which race
numbers the flights are to be assigned.
Don't forget for both the above you also need to allow for multiple
first, second third places etc.
Kind regards,
Huw

We are really using flights, with 24 competitors and 8 boats per starts. Each competitors must sail every boat and face the other competitors at least once. Originally, I had assigned flights to each competitor through the edit competitor tab. But when I edit the races and starts, the flights did not show. Running the test on starts always returned a 0, exept for race 1. publishing flights always gave no entries exept for race 1. Then I use the flight assignment tool, over the same file with the same results.
I then started this series from scratch with the flight assignment tool for races 1 to 6 and used the edit-competitor tab for random competitors on races 7-10 to test it. I still obtain a zero competitor when running the test on starts, but I can now publish the flights.

For each race you need to have a start for each flight, so there
will be 3 starts for each race. For each start you will have to set
which competitors are on that start.
For example if you have flight colours of Red, Blue & Yellow, in
R1 start 1 will have competitors who have flight = Yellow, in R1
start 2 competitors who have flight = Blue and in start 3
competitors who have flight = Red.

I have just taken a look at your Sailwave file and I am sorry I do
not understand how the flight assignments are being done. This is my
first experience of flights being numbers, I am more used to using
colours and boats being assigned to a colour with a boat changing
colour after a race or more typically after a set of races that took
place in a day.
Are the Sailing Instructions available, preferably in English?
Sorry. But if only in non-English I will have a look and see if I
can understand the allocation.
In events I have been associated with the initial seeding has been
done by the Race Organisers who use class world or national ranking
lists.

I would be interested to hear from anyone who has used ‘alias’ in anger, particularly when using it between Handicap and One Design. It is not uncommon for some cruiser classes to race simultaneously under both one design and handicap. Sailwave can handle this in the same way as for classes racing simultaneously under two different handicaps, using ‘alias’. However, no matter how we setup the alias (including using ‘edit race’ to set ‘finish=place’, the one design results are always displayed in the same style as handicap results (‘elapsed time’ —> ‘corrected time’ with handicap = 1.000). The result is, of course, correct. However, it’s confusing for competitors to see their One-Design/Scratch results displayed as ‘Elapsed’ and ‘Corrected’ times. Has anyone experience of this, or thought on how we might better configure Sailwave?
