re: earlier conversation, here's a quick hack at auto finish times in the
sailno wizard - probably needs at least a 'go back a bit because i missed
it' button.
When you start the sailno wiz - click "real-time finishes" and then when you
get to the page where the finish time is entered, you'll see it updating
every second - when you click "Finish" - that's the finish time recorded.
Obviously only of use on the bot and you need to get the sailno in ready -
which could cause problems when there are n boats v close
i think a better 'on the boat' tool would be to let the sailnos to be filled
in after the 'event' - the 'event' being to click 'now' every now and again.
so if there are 3 boats very close you click Now,. Now, Now as they cross
the line and then sort out the sailnos afterwards...

Hi Colin,
Looks good! Just needs a quick sync with a network timeserver on GPRS before the race start and you're about sorted.
Agree with your logic on the close finishers problem. Spotters could keep trace on orders crossing the line to fill in the gaps.
Andy.

Years ago, a guy in the boat club at the company I used to work for
developed a 'live' race starting and results programme on the mainframe.
After the (computer timed) starting sequence, times (for each lap) were
recorded by tapping the 'space' bar and were then allocated to a selection
from a list of competitors (a buffer of recorded times was built up). As a
system it worked OK for a small number of boats (<10) but using it with more
could prove tricky (without audio or video records): you also need a
'trash-can' to dump extra times (it's so easy to double hit) - beware
nervous tics!
Just remember the KISS principle - I'm not sure that the majority of
Sailwave users need a real-time system. I'd prefer to see a separate
recording package that can then export into Sailwave, rather than compromise
the existing wizard.
