Average OD Score

Hi

For the first time this year we are using an OD score of the average of your sailed races. But how do you exclude the OD score itself from the average, if someone has not sailed, their OD score just proceeds down to 1.

If they don’t race at all, they don’t get an OD score, 'cos OD scores are to make up for the fact that they didn’t race…

(That’s roughly how we do it at LSC - see SI15.2 et seq.)

Score them as OD, but exclude them from the results until they actually race. (There's a button for that sort of thing - Edit, Mark all unsailed competitors as excluded - can't remember if it works correctly for ODs though, and in too much of a rush to check right now - try it!)

At my club, we have a “RO” code set up to be Average of non-DNC races (there is a button in the Method tab of Edit Scoring Code for this)

We allocate RO codes race by race, as needed. If a competitor hasn’t sailed any races at that stage, the code picks up the same points as DNF – I don’t believe we have done anything special in the set-up for that to happen. When they finally sail a race, or two, then those previously allocated RO codes are given their average score for the really-sailed races.
