Average points?

For various reasons and misunderstandings, one of our competitors did not complete the course set for our Friday dinghy race yesterday. I have been instructed to give him ‘average points for the race’. How do I do that in Sailwave please?

Regards,

Susan Fortescue

Hi Susan,

Use the scoring code RDGa. This the usual code to use.

But was / is the intention of the phrase “* average points for
the race*”, it could mean:

  • average points of races in the series including those that

    have not yet been sailed
  • average points of the races sailed do far
  • average points of all races not DNC
So I would be requesting something a bit more specific in terms
    of the intention.

Kind regards,

Huw

Sorry, now I have another question, which is how do I load the RDGa code? I had a look at the ABYC Guide and followed the instructions but I only get a restricted number of codes, not the full set, please see screenshot below.

Hi Susan,

I don’t know why you only have a limited number of codes shown.

Where did the original blw come from?

The codes are stored in the blw file but when you create a new blw the default set of codes are preloaded into it.

As yours has RET in it (which is a relatively new code), then either someone has deleted the other codes or it is a very old one and someone has updated the RAF to RET

You could try the alternative method

image.png

And see if the codes are there. But as the tooltip in the first image says the codes are configured in the scoring system

image.png

If it is not there you can add it

Hope that helps

Oh and you need to update your copy of Sailwave the current version is 2.28.1

A better way of doing this is to right click on the result, select
“Set result code”, then RDGa, etc.

Many thanks for your replies! This is such a supportive group! I have managed to add the code RDGa and applied it to the result.

To answer one of the questions asked, I am still very much a novice with Sailwave. Our race files were set up in 2015 by an expert who has since left the club and I have not had the confidence to change them so I set up new races by opening a 2015 file, saving it under a new name, deleting the competitors and race dates and entering the new data! This might be why I do not have the full set of codes.

Thanks again for the help.

Best regards,

Susan
