Average turnouts

At the end of each year I need to calculate average turnout for each fleet in each series for prize giving purposes. A series lasts for about 24 races and we have 5 fleets in each race.
I normally do this by downloading the results into Excel and then a bit of spreadsheet manipulation. We have seven series so this can be a bit tedious. Anybody got any clever ideas for making this a bit easier.

Hi Jon,

I know of one club that has had developed a system for parsing

the series results into a MySQL data base. This is so they can
produce turnout statistics like:

  • number of times an individual boat raced
  • percentage of maximum number of races a boat could have raced
  • active boats compared to boats in the membership database
Having the data in a database would allow you to produce the data
you want and possibly a lot more.

Note - the club had a member who did such work as his business.

Kind regards,

Huw

Thanks Huw. I might have a look at this but it sounds a bit complicated for me. Might have to stick with the spreadsheets.

John,

If you are using the same formula on the same cells then you could record the steps in a Macro, then run the Macro when the next analysis is due.

You might need to make a couple of macros, by pressing the button to start recording a macro, go through the process and then stop recording the macro. Next time just start the macro, and it will do the work.

You might need to put the macro function on you toolbar so that you can find it.
