Beginner to Sailwave

Hi Colin
We have now started season and are getting used to Sailwave. I have
some queries.
I understand the only way to print results is by HTML and the only way
to edit them is by opening the HTML in WORD.
We can't stop SW including all the start times - we dont want any
showing.
We put our results up at the club by fleet, we need a page for each
fleet. So far we have achieved this by opening in WORD and editing,
this takes a long time. Is there a way to get SW to publish by page,
without publishing each fleet individually.
We also had a problem with saving results. After publishing we found
results had been lost and had to be re-input.
Would appreciate some further help.
Mike

Others are no doubt more experienced and can answer this better than I can. But what I did discover was that the "fleets" column didn't work in the way I might have expected it to (scoring the fleets separately, allowing to print the results of just one fleet) until I went and edited the list of fleets. Click on the Fleets button, then in the dialog box that opens up click New (to create a new fleet which will be called Fleet 1) then Edit (to change the name of the fleet.

Without doing that, it would allow a fleet column to have values in it but they didn't have any effect that I could tell. After doing this I was able to score the fleets separately as I wanted.

Hope this helps,

Dave McIntyre

For someone without other resources, editing in Word would be the simplest. However, I have found that Word adds a lot of un-necessary content to the file when its saved again. This makes the file size a lot bigger, longer upload and download times, etc.

A HTML editor (such as MS FrontPage) would be preferrable if it could be aquired.

Of course, a HTML expert could edit the HTML code directly from NotePad!

Hi Mike,

Yes you're right the onlt publiushed out is HTML, but you can use any HTML
editor to fiddle with it. not just word. It is an area where I intend to
put much effort into in the future because I accept it's a minimal solution
as it stands (compromise since I do this in 'spare' time). Pagination is
simething I can sort out though which I'll do for the next release.

MN: loosing results and publishing are not related; perhaps the .blw file
was not saved my mistake...? See private email for reponse to your other
enquiries about saving to files etc.

Thanks Mike
I've tried that, but I still get a list of start times for each fleet
as part of the heading for each race result of each fleet. (ie 10
start times x 10 fleets)

Hi Mike,

See my reply to your private email. If you see N start times in a race
headre it implies you've scored the series such that a group scorted of
boats span N starts. This is a warning of sorts - I used to not allow it at
all but some clubs, knowing they are scoring boats that sailed in different
starts, like to generate 'fun' results etc.

NB: the starts define how the boats sailed and how you are going to record
their results. They have no bearing on how the boats are scored - this is a
great flexibility but can cause confusion.
