Beginner's question on setting up a race season

I’m looking for some general guidelines from some experienced users if possible. We’re attempting to replace our decades-old scoring spreadsheet with SailWave. I think I understand most concepts here, and we’re still digging into the actually rating systems (we use a progressive handicap based on PHRF.)

My main question is how to setup SailWave for a season of racing. We race one race each week, for a total of 17 races. Do I define all races as a single series? Or do I create a single-race series for each week? Since we use a progressive handicap similar to NHC, each race needs to reference the previous race to calculate the new rating for each boat.

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Joe

Hi Joe - Welcome to Sailwave. From what I understand from what you have said is that you need to create a single series of 17 races.

As a quick guide it depends on how you are going to operate discards. For Sailwave to work out the discards then they all need to be in the same series. Sailwave can handle Qualification, Discards and 2 discard profiles for Qualifiers and finals

John,

Thanks for the reply. Each racer can discard the lowest six races based on score, so the races one boat may discard would be different than the others. Can Sailwave be setup to discard the six worst races for each boat?

Thanks,

Joe

Hi John - presumably the rule is a bit more than the worst 6 as this would mean if you had 6 races they would all be discarded.

1,2,3,4,5,6 would do that if that is what you want. with this if you had any number greater than 6 races the worst 6 would be discarded e.g. 7 races only the best would count.

Please see http://www.sailwave.com/discard-profile on the web site for full details of the Discard profile

John,

Thank again. I don’t profess to understand the archaic spreadsheet that currently handles the scoring. I’ve got a meeting next week with the race committee that should help clarify things.

Cheers,

Joe
