Beta 2.9.4.0 & NHC on XP

Jon,

Thought I would see how the NHC implementation works. However, I've had
some problems. XP SP3, regularly updated.

1. Installed 2.9.4.0 in new directory named "Sailwave_2.9.4.0"
2. Renamed installed SWHelper.EXE as SWHelper.EXE.bak
3. Copied in https://dl.dropbox.com/u/220425/SWHelper.EXE
4. Renamed xls files by adding ".bak" at end
5. Copied in https://dl.dropbox.com/u/220425/swnhc3.xls
6. Copied in https://dl.dropbox.com/u/220425/swnhc4.xls

I then started Sailwave and created a series that uses the new RYA NHC
system. Tried both Club and Regatta modes and Internal and External
modes and got the same behavior each time.

When I hit "Score series" I get a message box that says "SWHelper not
found" (cannot remember if there was an EXE on the end or not). None of
the ratings are changed, so the RYA NHC scoring is clearly not being done.

Here is the BAD part. Now, when I try to exit Sailwave by hitting the
close program "X" in the upper right corner Windows tries to close
instead. Apparently, XP thinks it has gotten a request to close Windows.
Canceling "Close Windows" does no good as it keeps coming back in an
endless loop. The only thing that works is to close Windows (by picking
one of the three options).

For the record, I got the "Cannot find SWHelper" error even when I used
the basic install configuration, which installs an older version of
SWHelper and the Excel files. So, apparently the problem isn't related
to a particular version of SWHelper.

At least I can get it to run OK on Windows 7, its just the maths now that is not quite right for me but its getting close.

Keep up the good work.

Its pretty bad timing I would say on RYA to release a new system so close to the start of a new season. It has put far too much pressure on the developers.

Regards,

John.
