First point, as OTC have started, are not OCS or retired, they could be scored as the number of starters so they are displayed on top of the codes
Second point is that I found inded no method to set globaly a race field for al cometotors, the Set Competitor Field utility works only with the other fields…
But you can turn the problem by creating an import file (may be done with Excel and saved as CSV)
I tested this en the elapsed.blw file of the sailwave examples.
The Excel file contains folowing data (use Caps where needed to avoid “non-mapped fields” windows):
RaceNo
SailNo
Code
6
181
OTC
6
217
OTC
6
218
OTC
6
351
OTC
6
401
OTC
6
3593
OTC
6
4520
OTC
6
5162
OTC
6
5504
OTC
6
5937
OTC
6
6218
OTC
6
6444
OTC
6
6564
OTC
6
6786
OTC
6
7438
OTC
Note that for multiple use, you may define cells A3 to last of the column as [=a$2], so if you need to re-use the file for subsequent races, you have just to change the contents of A2
You may also use the Import Race Results to enter all start times (field name Start) and finish times (field name Finish) or elapsed times (field name Elapsed) and naturally force other codes where applicable and delete the existing code when an elapsed time of finish is entered (may be automatised, for Elapsed in column D, use formula [=IF(D2>0;"";“OTC”)] (separators may differ according to your language settings)
Then save as Text Csv format with , as field separator and " as text delimitor
The contents are as follows
“RaceNo”,“SailNo”,“Code”
6,181,“OTC”
6,217,“OTC”
(…)
In Sailwave, import the race file…

Subject: [sailwave] Re: Boats scored using multiple ratings
Hi Mark,
Your suggestion worked out perfectly. I can now score the boats using ORR and IRC.
But, I have a new question. When scoring long distance races its usual to post preliminary results before all the boats are finished. I do this by making a scoring code OTC (ON The Course) and using it for boats still racing. I assign it points 1 more than the number of boats entered and codes such as DNS DSQ points more than 1 + the number of starters. Then rankings come out in a logical order. However, if you don’t enter a finish result in SailWave the score is given as DNC. It would be better in this case if it defaulted to OTC. Is there a way to do that? Alternatively, before the race begins I could set every boats finish to OTC and then overwrite the result as boats finish. However the facility that lets you set values for fields does let you set the results field. Am I going to have to set all 100 plus entries one by one? Not the end of the world but I hope there is another way.
Regards and Thanks,
George Gardner

My understanding is that you want to score all boats using ORR and some of those same boats using IRC as well. The issue being not how to score IRC but how to score a boat ORR and IRC at the same time without having two entries for the same boat.
I haven't done exactly what you want, but I have used to SailWave to score boats that were in both a regular fllet and a special category; double handed, all female, etc. they used the same rating system. I have also scored a regatta that have both PHRF and Portsmouth for different fleets. So I am pretty sure we can get SailWave to score this in one pass. That is so you don't have to have an ORR regatta and an IRC regatta.
There is a feature in SailWave called Alias which should enable you to do what you want. This option is enabled by checking the button in the User Interface window.
Create an Alias for each of the boats sailing IRC, by highlighting the competitor and creating a "new like competitor", then change the fleet to IRC and make that competitor an alias of the ORR entry. This will cause SailWave to pick up the start time and finish time from the ORR entry, but using rating from the IRC entry.
In the scoring system you need to check "show the fleets as well". This will allow you to have ORR as the default handicap system and then use IRC handicap for the IRC fleets only.
Make sure you use last years results to test the scoring. Ensure that you understand how to reproduce the results using Sailwave.
Let me know if you need more information.

Subject: multiple ratings
Hi,
I need a little help with Sailwave and Colin seems pretty busy so I’ve turned to you.
I’m setting up the scoring for an Ocean race with about a hundred entries to be held this spring. Boats are scored by division and overall using the ORR handicap method. Sailwave handles this nicely. However, some boats are also scored using the IRC handicapping method. How can I set this up using Sailwave? I can see how to do different scoring methods for the same entrants but there doesn’t seem to be a way to enter alternate ratings.
Thanks for the help
