Hi: I'm partway through a regatta. It's simple, six fleets, no flights, nout complicated. I start entering sail numbers for, say, Lasers. When I enter the first boat of a different Fleet the place should change to 1 when using SNW. But it doesn't, Sailwave is ignoring the fleets and I just get one sequence of finish places. I'm using the latest version. In the past I didn't think I had to set anything special to get Sailwave to treat the fleets separately. What am I doing wrong? Maybe I should retire!
Thanks, Donald
As a matter of interest I pulled up an old Regatta where boats were entered in a sequence and Sailwave sorted them into the correct Fleet and finished them correctly. Using the latest version of SW it wont sort into Fleets and the first boat in a new fleet just gets an incremented number rather than a 1.
Odd?

I may be misundertsanding you, But on the scoring series button you should get options to score by fleet? (Group??)
Rescoring runs the old scoring method so you have to pick score...

When you click score series then you have to say score different groups separately. You choose the field to separate on.
Good luck.

Hi Ian: I was phoning you last night to ask. You are talking about
scoring by fleet after data entry. My problem is before that. In SNW SW
is supposed to automatically identify the fleet so you can just enter a
sequence of numbers. So I can enter Laser 1234, Laser 1862, 29er CAN
189, etc and I should get Laser 1, 2 and 29er 1.

Hi Calum: This problem is before scoring this is data entry. In SNW
Sailwave automatically identifies boats by fleet. So you can just enter
a sequence of numbers and SW sorts them into 1, 2 3 etc for each fleet
separately. After data entry you then select “Score by Fleet” and score
the race.

So on sail number wizard if you have a Laser with Sail No = 1234 already entered in and you enter 1234 does it not find the laser? Or are you saying that it should automatically know the places?
Maybe we need a file to look at!

If there are duplicate sail numbers, SW does not record the place as long as you don't solve the case. If you solve the first case as Laser 1234, then the next occurrence will automatically be considered as the other one...

OK guys, you are making it complicated. In a race with multiple fleets
you should be able to enter ALL the sail numbers in order that boats
cross the line - no effort needs to be made by finish people to record
boats by fleet. SNW will automatically sort them into fleets for you.
So you can have the first 10 Lasers finishing and SNW will allocate
them places 1 to 10. The 11th boat across the line is a 29er. SNW
should automatically give this boat a 1 not a 12. Similarly when the
first 420 crosses it should get a 1 as its place and not some number in
the overall finishing sequence.
In the past SNW did all of this automatically.
What am I doing wrong? This is not about scoring by fleet after data
entry, this is a data entry question.
Thanks, Donald

Hi Donald.
I was thinking of the "edit race," when you right-click on the actual race.
In there the start-sequence has to be divided into the different fleets.
e.g. Start 1 = Laser, Start 2 = 29'er etc.
copy sequence to all races.
Then SNW should be seperating the fleets.

Steen

On the SNW clcik Edit Race before you satrt entering any results. Set 2 starts? Fleet 1 and FLeet 2 etc?
Seems to do what you want that way.

OK, thanks guys. I’ve now remembered how to set it up. It’s just Start
1=Laser, Start 2=Radial etc. Sigh, what an idiot!

Yes, it’s the starts that specify how Sailwave
will allocate the places - regardless of the order they are entered
into the SailNoWiz. I think there is a note to that effect at the
bottom of the wiz. Sorry for late reply - been out all weekend…
The starts define ‘how the boats sailed’ - the scoring system(s) define
‘how the boats will be scored’ - they are deliberately decoupled
becaise poeple score boats in all sorts of weird and wondeful and
multiple ways…
