I set up my sailwave files for the coming season in the last days.
If I change the content of any field in the competitor tab, sailwave overwrites the content of the field “notes“ with the string “s100“, even if this field was empty. If I try to change “s100” to another string, sailwave again saves “s100” in this field.
This happens with beta versions, for example sailwave 2.12.3, 2.14.8, 2.14.9 or 2.14.10 (I didn’t test more versions).
With sailwave 2.9.7 the field “notes” of the competitor will not be changed or overwritten accidentally.
Did anyone else experience this behavior of sailwave betas? Is there something wrong with my installation, or is there a bug in the beta versions?
I will check it out this evening but I am sure you are correct. It will be the result of moving to the new Clarion compiler. 2.9.7 was the last of the Clarion 6 builds I later moved to Clarion 8 and now to Clarion 9 so had to do some changes for that plus the big change was to keep it working with Linux as the text boxes don’t work under Linux when you compile with Clarion 8 or 9 so I had to change them all to Rich Text Boxes and adjust the code appropriately and I guess I got one of them wrong.

Yes I found the same little problem when I tested.

I couldn’t see any pending messages on the forum at the moment but I’ve also sent this one to the forum so hopefully it will clarify some issue for others as well
NHC 2013 has a realigned rating which is only used when you move to a new series and this figure goes into the default rating for that competitor in the new series. Race one always uses the Default rating.
NHC2014 does not have a realigned rating as all ratings are realigned. The Default rating in the competitor is the base rating from the RYA NHC Base list and doesn’t change. The rating for the first race is where the rating goes if you are bringing forward ratings from previous series. Otherwise Sailwave automatically uses the base rating for the first race.
Correct there is not a limit on the number of aliases you can make of the same competitor. The Alias is a copy of the original record but has a pointer to the host competitor so it knows where to pick its results from. The original competitor does not directly point to an Alias correct.
The next race handicap is held in the next race and you can publish this race showing the new ratings - So you can still have that discussion in the bar!!
You can do 2 level sorting so sort on the fleet column (twice for reverse) and then hold the control down and click the rank column. Alternatively you can put a space or * in front of the NHC fleet name and as its sorted it will be at the top as standard
I tried to send a message to the whole forum on my first point below, but I don’t think it got through so I will have to make an effort to work out what went wrong there. Anyway sorry for emailing you direct again!
I just wondered if I’m right in thinking that for the first race entry for 2014, it should be the end 2013 rating realigned. I think your responses to queries might mislead some people to use the final rating without picking up the realigned ratings. Or I’ve got something wrong in my head (quite possible). I don’t think it will make any difference if there aren’t new entrants, but often there will be for the start of a new year, so it might be worth clarifying.
I’m testing Sailwave with a view to moving the club from Sail100. I need to overcome some resistance, but from my fairly extensive testing of Sailwave, I think you’ve done a great job with it and it will fit the bill very well. I can see you’ve got lots of careful programming bits in which won’t be obvious to some users but help them along. Well done. Some questions:
I’m assuming there’s no limit to the number of aliases you can make of the same competitor. Please can you confirm. I’m guessing the alias competitor just has a flag that it is an alias (@) and points to the original record and picks up race results from there but not the handicap method or data and that there are no limitations therefore, and the original competitor doesn’t point to its aliases?
Is there any way to get the next race handicap onto the results sheet? I ask because Sail100 does this and there’s a lot of interest straight after a race as to how the result will affect the next handicap. Big discussion point at the bar! I’ve seen how you can customise the results pages, but don’t see a field for next race handicap so don’t think it’s available - can you please confirm, and if so would it be an enhancement you’d consider?
I created IRC results as aliases from NHC and this all worked perfectly. I wanted the NHC results at the top, so clicked twice on the column heading to sort and then sort in reverse order. However on each rescore the order was lost, which was about the only frustration with using it, and not that big a deal but I did wonder if there could be (or is and I’ve missed how to do it) an option to preserve ordering on rescore? Again I might have missed something obvious.
