How do we upload burgee files to our website when we cannot post images to the internet with absolute URLs?
I’ve posted a Burgee file to a folder in our club’s images directory, but when I click on the image, I can only see only (https://www.sporty.co.nz/dashboard#).
It was great to meet you yesterday evening at your club for the Sailwave in person session.
It is a problem referencing images hosted on websites and created within companies like Sporty. In some there is a way finding the link that has be used. Sometimes clicking or right-clicking the image on a dashboard will provide a copy link option in a pop-up.
One way around this issue is to use an image hosting service like Imgur (https://imgur.com/) which is one of the most popular free image hosting platforms on the web.
Looking at your club website and the image you included above on the dashboard, I am assuming you are trying have the image for ‘Osborne Nautical’ appear on your Sailwave results. So I right-clicked on the ‘Osborne Nautical’ image at the foot of the club home page and from the pop-up menu that appeared I selected ‘Copy image address’, which gave me https://prodcdn.sporty.co.nz/cms/8392/sponsors/22181_248.png. When I used this link in a web browser just the image was displayed. So if you put this link in one of the two image boxes in the Series propeties window, it should appear on your results when published.
I appreciate this only works for images already displayed on your website, but is a start
Kind regards,
Huw
I know Huw has replied to you but in your original post, you say you are uploading the results in pdf format.
If this is the case then it only requires burgee image files to be accessible to the PC that is creating the pdf so if you are creating the pdf on your PC the link to the images for the burgees could be a link to the image on your PC.
If you are using PDFs to publish then it is good to make sure you include background graphics if you want to include the highlighting of 1st 2nd and 3rd etc
PDFs certainly have their place, but if you can publish an HTML file, then the user has more options when displaying it, such as sorting columns, etc.
If your server will support you using HTML then this is the best option in my opinion. but you will then have to host the images somewhere this can be done using Onedrive or www.imagur.com
Thank you. I’m not sure whether the Sporty server allows us to post HTML race result files. I’ll check it out today.
I’ve previously tried the ‘linking to the burgee image file’ on my PC but get only a text placeholder instead of the actual image. I’ll have another try this morning.
My first attempt at highlighting 1st to 3rd in the PDF’s is working as expected.
Hi Kevin,
If Sporty dos not allow uploading HTML files, you could ask for a sub-folder for Naval Point Club on Sailwave website
You would create a link to the results file on your club website to the HTML file on the Sailwave website instead of to the PDF on your website. As Jon already said you get the functionality of all the effects then
I uploaded the sponsor’s image file to a folder on the Sporty website, right clicked on it, and clicked on the copy link. I then inserted that link into the Event burgee slot. Success.
It seems to have been set up by a group using our facilities for a championship. I wasn’t involved. I’ll use it for our ongoing results as NPCL is definitely us.
