Burgees Again

I downloaded (not upgraded to) Sailwave 2.2 build 3. This overwrote the RESULTS file in the Templates folder. I had burgees displaying OK on both my compuer and our website over the last season.
Since then I upgraded the computer with XP Professional and Internet Explorer 8.
I cannot get the burgees to display on my computer. I have copies of the burgees in the C:, my pictures, sailwave root, my documents and the templates folders. However, they display OK on our website if use the following line in the RESULTS file for the Venue Burgee:

<class="hardleft" src="http://hovelagoonmyc.wikispaces.com/file/view/Burgee10.jpg" alt="venue burgee" width="85" />

The Event Burgee line is similar and the website has a FILE folder containing JPG images of the two burgees.

I asked a fellow member to use the same lines in his RESULTS file and again the Burgees did not display on his computer. Therefore it is probably not an XP or IE8 problem.

Could anybody suggest a correction to the SRC lines to get a display on both my computer and the website.

Many thanks

Pat

If you change your src just to src=“Burgee10.jpg” it will look for the burgee in the same directory as the results file, either on your PC or on the server. Its a bit more complicated if the jpg is in another directory, but then it helps if the file structure is similar on the PC and server, e.g. src="./images/Burgee10.jpg" - where images is a sub directory of the results directory.

Malcolm,
I created a Folder called 'SAILWAVE RESULTS in C:\MY DOCUMENTS folder, and transfered all the sailwave results into it together with both Burgees. Then changed the TEMPLATES > RESULTS file to Read src="Burgee10.jpg" as recommended and also confirmed it read correctly. Regret when publishing results - No Burgees displayed.
The published webpage html document showed the src addresses correctly but the file was placed in the C:\MY DOCUMENTS folder, not the 'SAILWAVE RESULTS' sub-folder.

I then created an IMAGES folder in the 'SAILWAVE RESULTS' folder and put the Burgees into it. Then modified the TEMPLATES > RESULTS file to read src="./images/Burgee10.jpg". Again no Burgees displayed and the published webpage html document showed the src addresses correctly but the file was placed in the C:\MY DOCUMENTS folder, not the 'SAILWAVE RESULTS' sub-folder.
Any more idea's?

Wonderful! I’ve been quietly puzzling away at how to
get the burgees to display correctly, without any success. Here is a solution
to my problem! Thank you very much!

Pat,

If you open your (htm) results file, e.g. with Notepad, what does the burgee statement say (src = ?)

You could edit this to be src=“Burgee10.jpg” or src="./images/Burgee10.jpg’ and see what it shows as.

I’m not sure if changing the the TEMPLATES > RESULTS file will give the output you expect.

Leave it as it was and when publishing from Sailwave, just specify the burgee path - don’t use the tool to find it.

Malcolm,

The .htm file reads src=”Burgee10.jpg” or src=”./images/Burgee10.jpg”
depending on which statement I choose.

So it is being transferred to the htm file OK.

I’m now confused as to where the src statement is to be
placed, I’m modifying the TEMPLATES>RESULTS file and this places the
SRC as specified into the .htm file.

Where in the Sailwave files do you place it other than the

RESULTS file?

Thanks for help so far

Pat,

It shouldn’t be necessary to modify the Results template - I’ve never done this.

When you create a series, the info you add to Setup / Series Properties ( like Event Name and Venue as well as event and venue burgee file location) gets plugged into the Results output when you publish the results. Presumably the Publish programme makes use of the Results template when doing so.

Hi Malcolm,

Modified the Series Properties as suggested but firstly put the

Still doesn’t work unless I put Burgee10.jpg in the Series

I’ve now given up and am hand amending the Web server file
to get the display of Burgees to show in the internet.

Pat,

If you set your Series Properties to the burgee absolute path as for the server, then publish, then upload, the file should display correctly on the server, but not (necessarily on your PC.

As I said previously, it helps if the file structures are similar on the server and on your PC.

Subject: [sailwave] Burgees Again

I downloaded (not upgraded to) Sailwave 2.2 build 3. This overwrote the RESULTS file in the Templates folder. I had burgees displaying OK on both my compuer and our website over the last season.
Since then I upgraded the computer with XP Professional and Internet Explorer 8.
I cannot get the burgees to display on my computer. I have copies of the burgees in the C:, my pictures, sailwave root, my documents and the templates folders. However, they display OK on our website if use the following line in the RESULTS file for the Venue Burgee:

<class=“hardleft” src="http://hovelagoonmyc.wikispaces.com/file/view/Burgee10.jpg " alt=“venue burgee” width=“85” />

Many thanks

Pat

Pat,

I think you may have missed Malcolm's main point because stuff should be working for you based on what he said.

The HTML file will say where to look for the JPG file (that is what the code 'src="xxx.jpg"' means). Using "burgee10.jpg" translates into "look in the same directory (or folder or whatever) as this HTML file. So, if the HTML and JPG files are in the same directory then the burgee will display, whether on the internet or on your PC. [Using "images/burgee10.jpg would mean "look in the directory named 'images' which is a subdirectory to the directory containing this HTML file." Using "../images/burgee10.jpg" would mean "look in the directory named 'images' which is a subdirectory of the directory containing the directory containing this HTML file" (in other words, a "sister" directory to the one containing this HTML file). You might find more explanation by looking at http://www.coffeecup.com/help/articles/absolute-vs-relative-pathslinks/]

From your early emails it seems the burgee on the internet is NOT in the same directory as the HTML file on the internet. An easy fix would be to copy the burgee to the same internet directory where the results HTML files go AND to the same PC directory where the results HTML files go. Then everything will display as intended.

Pat,

If you set your Series Properties to the burgee absolute path as for the server, then publish, then upload, the file should display correctly on the server, but not (necessarily on your PC.

As I said previously, it helps if the file structures are similar on the server and on your PC.

It shouldn't be necessary to modify the Results template - I've never done this.

When you create a series, the info you add to Setup / Series Properties ( like Event Name and Venue as well as event and venue burgee file location) gets plugged into the Results output when you publish the results. Presumably the Publish programme makes use of the Results template when doing so.

The .htm file reads src="Burgee10.jpg" or src="./images/Burgee10.jpg" depending on which statement I choose.

So it is being transferred to the htm file OK.

I'm now confused as to where the src statement is to be placed, I'm modifying the TEMPLATES>RESULTS file and this places the SRC as specified into the .htm file.

Where in the Sailwave files do you place it other than the TEMPLATES>RESULTS file?

The published webpage html document showed the src addresses correctly but the file was placed in the C:\MY DOCUMENTS folder, not the 'SAILWAVE RESULTS' sub-folder.

Thanks for that Art,

Re-downloaded Sailwave and guess what - it now displays Burgees
OK, problem solved.

Here are my final notes which may be of use to others: If
anybody can find fault with it please be free to correct at will:

Publishing Burgees

There are two methods to display Burgees at
the top of the final results html document, either at Event Level or Global
Level. In both cases the burgee jpg (or gif) file must reside in the
same folder as the program that creates the final html result.

This is the same for the Website structure –
the burgee jpg (or gif) files must be in the same folder as file calling the
display.

  1. Event Level

From the menu bar
Choose ‘Edit Series Properties’ and for both ‘Event burgee’ and ‘Venue burgee’,
enter the burgee filename, jpg (or gif) with no associated path or any other
characters.

This will publish the
burgees full size and if required to adjust the size enter after the burgee.jpg
a space and “width=80”

Adjust the with width
number, shown as 80, as required to suit the display

  1. Global Level

Alternatively,
to set up as a Global requirement:

Start Sailwave and
Select:

Setup > Global
options > Folders > My Template files > View folder content

Now
open the “Results.HTML” file with Notepad or a suitable text editor and change
the following two lines:

event burgee

To read:

Stay
in Notepad and use File > Save As while test publishing until it
looks OK. Ensure the saved file is a .htm file.

(Best.jpg
& Burgee10.jpg are the names of my Burgee files)

Hope the above is clear

Pat
