Burgees not showing in published page

v1.80
Try as I might I can't get the burgees to show up in the published
resultls pages. I've got them selected in the series layout. I've
checked and rechecked them. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
I looked at the template in Dreamweaver and can't see how they work. I
called up the published page in Dreamweaver and was able to select the
correct graphics and get them to display, and then saved the page. So
what am I doing wrong or is it something in the html programming.

Hi, Robb!
You have to put the burgees out on the site where you are hosting the resultas, and refer to that burgees. Not to those om your local harddisk...
Thats the way I do it.

I would have been nice if Colin made a tweak on this.

Regards,
Martin

Do you have any ideas? A far as I can see, once the results are on the web
site as HTML they must point at an image that is on the internet...

Or do you mean make it easier to arrange for the images to be printed
locally and when uploaded; two image paths perhaps, local and internet...

Wel, I tought that when uploading results everything you need should be uploaded. Even references like burgees... It takes a little longer time to do the upload, but we often have high speed lines these days... Maybe a popup asking you if you want to upload burgees too?

I've got this question lots of times... Looks to me that peoples like to think of the results+burgees (++ everything) as only "one thing". Not that they have to "manually" refer to burgees too.

So, maybe two images paths is a good idea. Alot of peoples are confused about images. Just look around, and you'll see that SW results often don't contain images... (Even on Grimstad Seilforenings web-pages, some are missing).

Hi, Colin!

It's probably not the right time now, to suggest new functions... But...

It would have been nice to have a RANDOM function to put scores into races, for test purposes.

I, and hopefully most scorers, like to prepare for events. So, I always sets up events and score them in advance. then it would have been nice to not have to enter 200x Races manually....

Martin

Hi Colin and Martin,

It's very easy to get it to work...

I believe that you all have a folder eg called Sailwavefiles or
something similar somewhere on your own computer. It doesn't matter
where it is. In that folder create "burgees" for burgeefiles and
another folder for blw and htmfiles, yes they should be in the same
folder. I have one folder for Optis, Europe, Zoom8, Lasers,
The_nowhere_regatta etc...

In the Series option set ../burgees/your_event.gif
and ../burgees/your_venue.gif

At the webpage you ad a folder burgees at the root level and put all
your burgeefiles there.

Now it works local and on the net.

LOCAL:
anywhere on my computer -|- burgees
                          >
                          >- regattas

On The Internet:

at your rootlevel create /burgees and put up ALL your burgees.
Anywhere else your put your htm-files.

../ works localy one level ut and on the net ../ from root. Colin i
think this could be recommended to all Sailwave users.

Hi Anders,

I agree, but many users who are not HTML-aware don't realise that they have
to upload the images too when they publish results to the internet.

I just did some Sailwave training with somebody and it was a bit of an

it was not at all apparent from here that the images had to be
uploaded separately. Of course that could be done, but very obscure to
everyone who is not a web designer. The way Sail Wave runs it looks
like it would take care of uploading the selected imaged by itself.
And here's the interesting. If you are sending the results page to
your local browser so you can print the results the images are still
not appearing, even though they are "pointed to" and are locally
available (without restriction). The images really should show up on
the finished page, in this case, and then not show up when the page is
posted on the internet (because the image link is not available, being
still back on a local hard drive. It would be a whole lot easier if
Sail Wave just uploaded the images with the html page, putting
everything in the same place and referring to both images and page in
the same spot.

Hi Anders,

I don't know of any known problem with that. If you copy and paste the
content of one of the image paths from Sailwave into your browse, does it
show up?

I have noted the image upload ocnfusion and will do something about it.
Although it will slow everything up to do it each time...

We were having the same problem on the laptop. My default web browser
was Netscape. Among other things I tried unsuccessfully, I changed my
default web browser to MS Internet Explorer, and it worked.

nope, cut and paste for the local paths doesn't work. It works only if
I point to an image out on the net. Weird. I've never see a page work
that way. A path should be a path, whether it points to a local file
or an internet file. It would make sense not to see an image if you
were pointing to a net image and you were not connected to the net.
But if you point locally you should see the file.

Note that if what you're doing is printing the page to post in the
club (99.9 percent of our usage)--under the current state you can't
get images unless you're connected to the web. Now we're cool. The
Wayzata Yacht Club is a wireless hotspot. Very nice because I'm on the
net the entire time I'm on club grounds. Not that way at any other
venue in the region. And working at other venues I don't have ready
access to the full paths for images other than those connected to our
club. Some of their pages are all java script and I'm not versed
enough to get into them.

It's been both Firefox and Netscape 8.
Works fine if I save the page locally and then open it in Dreamweaver.
Repoint to the local files and publish it again locally. Of course
that doesn't help if it's published to the web. I still have to put
the images out on the web somewhere (which I've now done). I'd love to
be able to point to images locally, and then have Sailwave upload them

Hi,

Firefox displays images OK - I just put "C:\Sailwave\Admin\swlogo30.jpg"
into the URL field and it displayed the image. It must be something else...
(Sailwave itself for example). What version of Sailwave are you using and
what is the exact string you're entering into the burgee fields.

I'd love to
be able to point to images locally, and then have Sailwave upload them
at the same time as the results page, put them all in the same place > and remap the link to the images to the newly uploaded ones. > > --- In sailwave@yahoogroups.com, "Colin Jenkins" <colin@s...> wrote:

The local link for the venue was:
C:\Program Files\Sailwave\Templates\My Templates\wyc.gif

the new links are out to the web and they work fine as long as I'm

Hi!

You got it now, Colin!

Personally I "don't care", because I do it the way Anders descriebed.

I do travel around a bit, and sometimes I forget it. And also I have to explain it to "everybody", because people are not engaged with layout but scoring...

There could be a check: IF the referented burgees exist on the referent path DO nothing ELSE upload referenced burgees

Then I could change/upgrade the image file if I wanted to....

regards, Martin

PS! I had the problem with not showing burgees on local machine long time ago, but I'm sorry to say that I don't remember the solution....

  Hi Anders,

I agree, but many users who are not HTML-aware don't realise that they have
to upload the images too when they publish results to the internet.

I just did some Sailwave training with somebody and it was a bit of an
  eye-opener...

oh, and I'm using 1.80
I keep it updated.

to me it's really the idea of "uploading" or publishing. The natural
inclination is to assume that everything is uploaded, not just certain
parts. So if the scorer has setup the results with images that they've
loaded locally, it seems natural to assume that they would uploat
during "publish." My personal issue went a bit further. I wasn't
publishing to the web, not until much later and I was able to fix the
problem. No, I was publishing to my browser locally, and then printing
and posting results on the clubhouse board after each race (lots of
interested parents and observers. We have full current results already
posted before the kids are in for lunch. Makes us very popular, plus
we catch and correct early spelling errors, etc. When I published to
my local browser the images were not showing, even though they were
correctly linked. Now that didn't make sense. It's understandable that
a web published page is missing images when the link is back to a
local drive. It's understandable if a locally viewed page is missing
images if they are linked to the web and you're not connected. It
doesn't make sense that a locally published page, linked locally, is
missing images. Must be something in Sailwave that's inserting
"http://" or some web-oriented language into the published page. I'm
sure Colin, in all his wisdom, will figure it out. Hey, it's a
fantastic program and I have all these people at my end interested in
doing scoring because of it.
Thanks always,
Robb

Wel, I tought that when uploading results everything you need should

be uploaded. Even references like burgees... It takes a little longer
time to do the upload, but we often have high speed lines these
days... Maybe a popup asking you if you want to upload burgees too?

I've got this question lots of times... Looks to me that peoples

like to think of the results+burgees (++ everything) as only "one
thing". Not that they have to "manually" refer to burgees too.

So, maybe two images paths is a good idea. Alot of peoples are

confused about images. Just look around, and you'll see that SW
results often don't contain images... (Even on Grimstad Seilforenings
web-pages, some are missing).

Hi, Colin!

It's probably not the right time now, to suggest new functions... But...

It would have been nice to have a RANDOM function to put scores
into races, for test purposes.

I, and hopefully most scorers, like to prepare for events. So, I
