Byte PY

Hi
Thanks to SUG members who responded to my query re Magno PY

Now for another one - does anyone have any info or experience of PYs for the Byte Standard
(original??) and Byte CII (fully battened main etc
The official PY in YR2 is 1162 for the 2004 version but I strongly suspect that this is the original
standard version

Thanks in anticipation

Regards
Ralph

Ralph,

For what it is worth, following a quick conversation with some associated
with the Byte - the CII rig is a "fair bit quicker" than the original rig
because it is easier to sail. But they were not willing to even guesstimate
a difference. FYI - Whitstable YC have used 1139 for the CII rig; in one
race in which there was a 'standard' rig Byte racing as well and the CII
took 45m 59s elapsed and the standard took 1h 6m 46s. Results pages found

I keep PN records going back a number of years, in fact to 1982 missing 1985
& 2003 editions of YR2!

Year PN Status
2005 1162 SY
2004 1162 SY
2003 1162 SY
2002 1162 SY
2001 1161 SY
2000 1160 SY
1999 1160 SY
1998 1160 SY
1997 1160 SY
1996 1159 SY (year PN's changed to 4 digits)
1995 122 SY

Hope this is a small amount of use and I look forward to seeing what others
have to contribute.
Kind regards,
Huw

Ralph
I have the same problem with the Byte C2 handicap. Only 2 people have
sailed a Byte C2 on Chipstead Lake but we have a few standard Bytes. Having
consulted with people at Marconi SC (who sail several Byte C2s on an
estuary) we settled on 1130 for this year. Marconi SC used a PY of 1113 for
2004 but say this is a bit harsh and think it should be in the region of
1122 - 1125.
Our results suggest a sensible figure would be 1127 - i.e. 35 quicker than
a standard Byte.

Geoff

Thanks everyone

In the end we did not have a problem as the single Byte was a standard one.

Hopefully, those of you in the UK will include the two versions on your annual returns to the RYA so
that 2 PYs can be officially published

Ralph
