Calculation of Reverse start

Our club has an event where we start PHRF boats based on the expected time to complete the specified distance. The boats start in reverse order, the slowest first and the fastest last. In theory, they all should finish at the same time.

Does Sailwave have a method to calculate the starting times for this type of an event?

Bill,

At this time unfortunately no, Sailwave cannot produce start times for
a ‘Rabbit’ race as I have heard it called in the USA or Pursuit Race as
it is known here in the UK. It is in the development plan. I have a
spreadsheet I have used for producing start times for boats using RYA
Portsmouth Yardstick ratings.

Kind regards,

Huw

If you created a custom rating system with a
formula something like (1-R/RatingOfSlowestBoat)*LengthOfRace

the corrected times would show you the time difference to be added from
the start time of the slowest boat.

That formula assumes smaller R == faster boat - if the opposite then
reverse the divide. Would not work for non linear systems but would
for PY, ISAF, Texel, IRC etc.

Colin,

Neat

Hi Bill

SW does not calculate start times

The attached spreadsheet has been devised by David Wilkins of Rutland SC to calculate start times for Pursuit races

Don’t know if this is any use but it may set you off on the right track

Ralph
