Can this "tweak" to Chips be done somehow??

Greetings!

We use Sailwave to score our club racing and (due to popular demand) we race three different types of boats together boat-on-boat as a pseudo-one-design fleet.

The characteristics of these boats are not the same, but overall, they’re close enough that the racers prefer this (imperfect) boat-on-boat racing over handicap racing.

We have settled on the Chips high-point system to score the series. Each series can have 20 to 30 races over many weeks. Chips works well, due to varying attendance.

The problem is that, on average, one of these types of boat is a little faster in our average conditions. Not enough to make people want to abandon this approach and go to handicap racing, but enough that we all know which type of boat to sail if our goal is simply to win the series.

So is there a way to set up Sailwave to apply a points adjustment depending on the type of boat? Not a change in placing, but a small, say 2% adjustment in the points scored by a certain type of boat? The idea being that we get the fun of boat-on-boat racing, but there’s a small tweak applied to the scoring.

This suggestion is, in effect, a handicap, but it is done in a different place in the process.

Is there any way to make this work right now? Is this something that could be added?

Best Regards

That's a very strange thing.... Wouldn't it be better to dual score the series handicap and scratch? Or are you trying to avoid the bother of timing the races?

Hi Doug,

So as I understand you want individual races to be effectively one design racing but series results to be on Handicap

Do I understand correctly?
