can't connect to ftp account

Ok - this is all very helpful. Can I just establish what exactly is required of the file name. The last page of the Weta website for example could be Results. Its filename as the site is constructed at the moment would be 'page12.html' . The site name is www.weta.org.uk . When I go to ftp.weta.co.uk and log in I get and index of files. I can see that I have successfully uploaded the results file but it is not displaying. I think it should go into the folder 'htdocs'. Unfortunately I don't know what any of these things mean. Could you just get me the last hundred yards?!

On your Results page you need to have a link set up already so that users can click on that link to open up your race results html file. For example, our site has a page http://www.stmawessailing.co.uk/sailing/racing/results/index.php with all our regular series listed plus one recently added which was a one-off (virtual regatta - great fun by the way). Now in Sailwave at the Global Settings FTP Setup page you set your user ID and password and the folder name where your results files are to be uploaded. Then when you Publish in Sailwave select "A web site using FTP", making sure you have given the results file the same name as the link you already set up. For example on ours the virtual regatta had a file name of virtual1.htm

I hope that helps.

Hi all,

Haven't tried FTP functionality in quite a while but something I know from other systems I have used, is that the path name may need a final slash.

Kind regards,
Huw

OK - cracked it! And I didn't use the suggested method. The site I am using to test this on has 12 pages and the last one, page 12 was selected as the sacrificial page for the test. What I put in the file box was htdocs/page12 . The sailwave file has replaced the original content. I tried a second sailwave file and once I had written .html rather than .htm which I had to start with due to poor eyesight it overwrote the previous file. This page is accessed via a button on the home page. Obviously if I want to display more than one weekend's results at a time the hyperlink to a file as suggested would be more flexible.

And to think, three days ago I didn't know what an ftp was and I still don't know what htdocs are!

Well done!

htdocs - just the name of a directory on your website, probably shorthand for `html documents', such as your result files.
