Can't get the scoring right

Hi,

This is my first attempt at using Sailwave and I must say this attempt is terrible.

I can't get the scoring to work.
Here is the file: http://www.mediafire.com/?23oy73mhblsbggc

I'm trying to set up the handicap system but it doesn't seem to change anything to the results.

Thank you,
Mathieu

I believe you need to enter your CHS handicap using a period instead of a comma.

i.e 0.923 instead of 0,923

Try using a decimal place e.g. 0.930 instead of a comma e.g. 0,930 in the CHS rating :wink:

Mathieu,

Willy in his reply has highlighted using a , instead of . in the

rating and changing to . made things work for me, but . I have
noticed one other thing and have a question as well.

For the two races that have data entered, the race information is

showing that finishes are places. This is wrong if a handicap system
is being used, it should show either Elapsed or Finish Time.

<img alt="Race Information Windows" src="cid:part1.08040709.07050406@bcs.org.uk" height="1050" width="1680">

Also what format are your times in as I can't work them out; I think

Sailwave has assumed HHMM. It is usual to put times in as 6-digits
(HHMMSS) and no separators are required, but the following can be
used : - / . ;

Sail number 1404 has an 'elapsed' time but no rating so it is not

processed. I have scored by the Fleet column but this may not be
what you wanted.

I hope this helps. I have attached a copy of the file with the race

changes made and the change of , to . in the rating value as
suggested by Willy in his reply. With these changes scoring series
works for me both all competitors or by Fleet.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Huw

Beware of the lack of separators in entering results. If you put in six digits without any separators for a Start Time or a Finish Time, , Sailwave will interpret the figures as hhmmss, but for Elapsed times, the rules are a little different:-

Elapsed times must take one of the forms:-

d:h:m:s

h:m:s

m:s

s

d = days, h = hours, m = minutes, s = seconds. Only integer values are allowed. There is no no limit on values; for example minutes and seconds can have values greater then 60. Spaces are ignored. Alternative separators are:-

  • / . ;

Any number which consists only of digits will be interpreted as a number of seconds, which will not (as my Club found to its cost!) give you the same results as the same digits correctly entered as mm:ss! For example, 1315 is seen as that number of seconds, 13:15 is 13 minutes and 15 seconds, 1:3:15 is one hour, three minutes and fifteen seconds. When handicaps are applied, those differences can have quite an impact on the results!

Ian Day

The times are in seconds, which is why I haven't put any separators. :slight_smile:
