Hello everyone,
I have been at the World Sailing Annual Conference last week and the Youth Events committee agreed on a new scoring system for the youth worlds nations trophy.
I know it is short notice (the event starts in about 3 weeks) but if it is possible to make the changes in the software… that would be just awesome !
Here is a summary:
We have one sailor per country per event and there are nine events. Number of events may increase or decrease in the future - parameter should be adjustable.
On each day and each event, countries will be ranked according to their scores on that day. Lowest points receive one point, second receives two etc
Countries not entered in the event will receive scores equal to the number of countries in the REGATTA plus one.
Where there are ties the points will be shared
The country’s daily score will be the total of the best four events of that day. This parameter must be possible to be adjusted as it will be five or six next year.
The total of all racing days will be the country’s overall score.
Ties will be broken by the combined score of the last day. Remaining ties on the score of the second to last day and so on
I am happy to give more info or get you in direct contact with the people from the committee… I have been asked to make first contact on their behalf and hope we are not too late with this project.

I can certain have a go for you. I need some clarification on the algorithm that you intend to use. The description talks about days - which races make up the days?
If someone could get that to me quickly as there is not much time.

Marina is on the WP – she can help with clarification.
My understanding is that there are 9 events with an unknown number of races (depending on wind) per day. The idea is that whatever the number of races is, every event (i.e. laser standard, laser radial, rsx men, rsx women…) gets a ranking based on the races of tbe day (however many that might be) and that constitutes the “day ranking” which then goes to the overall. So in fact it does not matter how many races an event “gets in” but the races of the day constitute a ranking for that particular day, from 1 to [number of nations]. and that gets added up with the other events (4 in this years case),
