Changing the Minimum number of boats for NHC to kick in

Hi…

I have a NHC which is set as internal… it kicks in when there are three boats (default i believe) - is there a way to change this to be four boats? if so how can i do it please?

Kind regards

Ant

Hi Ant

Yes you can do this by using a file SWHelper.ini

Some documentation on this is available in the Sailwave User Group if you do a search

But basically you just need a SWHelper.ini with

[Parameters]
MinFin = 4

You can also adjust other parameters e.g

[Parameters]
AdjustP = 0.3
AdjustPX = 0.15
AdjustN = 0.15
AdjustNX = 0.075
SD_Over = 1.50
SD_Under = 1.00
MinFin = 3

The location of the SWHelper.ini file has changed in the recent Sailwave version

2.38.2-1 includes a fix for using the SWHelper.ini file, which now resides in the ratings directory to prevent it from being deleted when installing a new version. If you use overrides of the default parameters with progressive handicaps, then you need to use version 2.38.2-1; otherwise, 2.38.2 is fine. There is no change to Sailwave.exe only the included SWHelper.exe.

Hi Jon,

I don’t see a SWHelper.ini - i do see a SWHelper.exe in my sailwave install directory… and nothing in my ratings directory?

do i need to

  1. create a file called SWHelper.ini in the ratings directory (notepad)
  2. how does sailwave know about this file? do i need to link it somehow or does it pick it up at start-time?
  3. i am on the latest version
  4. i only have two files in ratings directory (Limited data_PN_List_2025.csv, PY_List_2025.csv)

cheers in advance

Hi Antony,

Yes - SWHelper.ini does not exist in a standard installation.

If it is not present then it uses all the default settings
Until recently you could create a SWHelper.ini file and store it in the same directory as the SWHelper.exe
When SWHelper.exe starts it looks to see if the SWHelper.ini file exists and changes the default parameters to any of those specified in the .ini file.
The current version of SWHelper.exe which is installed with the latest Sailwave install changes the location it looks for the SWHelper.ini because if it is in the Program files directory it gets deleted when you update. With it in the Ratings folder it survives updates.

Hope that helps

Hi Jon,

one final question - if there are four boats and 1 boat retired… will this setting see this as four boats even though it retired, because it “raced”

cheers Ant

Hi Ant,

Any boats with scoring codes are not considered to have finished
