Classic Yachts scoring, CRF MKII handicaps.

This regatta has traditionally been scored using a different platform, due to the race officers decision to mix fleets inside different starts, the traditional method won’t work. I’ve used Sailwave for years and the program doesn’t the mix/match I need, but I can figure how to program the custom rating function to apply the CRF MKII ratings.

The spreadsheet is attached.

Can anyone look at this and see if a custom rating expression will work. I’ve looked at TCF and completed a test file against last years scores and they don’t match.

Cheers,

Ron

Hi Ron,
I’ve had a look at the Excel file.

Could you give me a bit more explanation on how you use this and what parameters you input.

A worked example would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Jon

You left out the most important part - the formula for scoring!

The spreadsheet lists "sec/mi ratings" and the website for the rating
system (http://classicratingformula.com/) has little numbers for big
fast boats and small numbers for little slow boats. Sooooooo, I assume
it is standard Time On Distance scoring. PHRF ToD is standard TOD
scoring and if you hold put your cursor over that option it will show
you the formula: Corrected = Elapsed - (Distance * Rating) with distance
in miles (normally ratings are expressed in sec/nautical mile).

If you want to do a custom system instead of using PHRF ToD then be sure
to fill out all three boxes.

[c = e - (r*d)] [e = c + (r*d)] [r = (e - c)/d]

I checked out some results from the 2018 NYYC Race Week on Yacht Scoring
and it DOES seem to be standard TOD scoring (the Yacht Scoring results
don't include a race distance but when I back-calculated the distance
for boats in a race they were all the same to a tenth of a mile so I
have a confidence level of 95%+).

Hi Art,

Thanks for providing the formula in the 3 parts, that’s exactly what I needed to use Sailwave.

Cheers,

Ron.
