Cleartype problem in dialog boxes

Right at the start I looked at Sailwave as a possible program to use
to replace one I wrote years ago (about 1982 and non-Windows and in
Pascal!). In Sailwave there was this problem with dialog boxes being
unreadable. Didn't need to use it, but have just come back now and DO
want to use it. Downloaded 1.57 and found problem still there. Didn't
know what was causing it, but searching this forum, I found the answer
- well hidden and identified just 2 years ago.

Two things:
1) The problem and its solution should be made mor obvious to
potential users, or they will be put off using the program.
2) The solution (turning off Cleartype) is not really an answer as it
makes other things (like drop-down Menus) very much harder to read and
ordinary text slightly more difficult. So is there a more long-term
solution? I haven't seen this problem in any other programs, so I
think that something could be done to the code/parameters used in the
application itself to cure the problem.

Thanks for restoring my faith in my eyesight Mike

Having recently bought a new laptop with XP & noticed this problem for the first time, put it down
to my super new back-lit LCD screen or simply advancing senility!

You mention turning off Cleartype - how???

Easy:
On a blank bit of the desktop, right-click & select 'Properties'.
On the tabs, select 'Appearance'.
Click the 'Effect' button.
Replace 'Cleartype' with 'Standard' and OK it.
Click 'Apply' to see what it looks like (you will find that a lot of
other text becomes pretty awful, so I would only turn Cleartype off
while using Sailwave.
OK your way out.

And, I've retired from Race Management organisation after some 15
years. Yes, we are all getting more senile.

All the best,

Mike

Hi Mike,

You're right. I didn't realise how bad it was. I've never been able to use
cleartype at all - it's always looked horrible. But now that I've used the
power toy cleartype tuner it looks good except for Sailwave entry boxes.
Now that I can see it, I should be able to do something about it for the
next version. Thanks for your feedback.
