ClearType test in 1.61

If you're having problems with ClearType and Sailwave input fields, can you
download 1.61 and try the test tool in the help menu - I think I've called
it TrueType not cleartype though. Then let me know which fonts are readable
and which are not.

Entering Boat information for Races does take quite a lot of time. Stuff
Like Boat Name, Boat Class, Rating, Helm (Owner), Club, Nationality, Notes
etc. However not all this information is available on the published webpage.
I would personally love to know what the specs are for boats that are doing
well in club handicaps.

I therefore suggest When you enter "Edit Competitor", an additional Tab is
created "WebPage". On This tab a checkbox enables the field to create a
separate page when results are published with details of that boat. (i.e.
Photo, Type of boat, Type of Keel, Type of Motor, Whether Spinnaker or not
and other useful stuff)

I also suggest adding information collected in the ISAF SCHRS rating
calculator to be added as another tab to "Edit Competitor" instead. Then the
details of this can also be published on the boats webpage. (Or information
like that collected from http://www.byronsoftware.org.uk/Sail/datsheet.htm)

Finally, if a competitor enters your venue, and he has already entered a
previous race scored in Sailwave where his webpage (as above) was published,
then you ought to be able to simply enter the URL of the published webpage,
to import all the competitors details into your race automatically.

Just a thought

Regards
Terry

I have tried 1.61 with clear type.

It works fine, every think is clearly visible, there is none of the
earlier problems.

Hi,

That's weird! I haven't actually done anything; just added the help menu
options to display font in various sizes as an experiment.... confused now.

Terry et al

You are quite right about the time spent to set up new entrants - look at the import facility it is
brilliant!.

At the Topper event, where we had some 140 boats, the Class Association did all the hard work of
entering details in a spread sheet before the event. All we had to do was click on a few buttons &
the entrants were loaded into SW in seconds ;-)))))))

Entering data in a spreadsheet is soooo much quicker than a bespoke piece of software - give it a
whirl & you will not be disappointed.

There is one minor problem which I came across, when the import feature lost my settings for the
flight starts in each race (unless Colin has fixed it) but this 5 minute job to re-input the starts
is infinitely better than an hour+++

Also, with a big General Handicap, I now have a provisional list of entrants so that I can think 'on
the water race management' rather than get evil looks from the girls in the office when I ask for a
competitor list before I give the briefing.

Until Colin can address your suggestions, why not publish it to a spreadsheet instead of IE.
Alternatively, you can export the whole of the data to a spreadsheet & play with it during the long,
dark, winter nights

Ralph

Hi Colin
It seems that of the 8 point, Times New Roman is the best (but not 100%)
Of the 10 point, Tahoma & Arial look to be spot on.

Because the problem is a vertical line, I have overwritten the 10 point text with a continuous
underscore which should come out as an unbroken line. Sorry, comes out as broken dashes.

I will send you a screen shot of the test by separate email

Hi Ralph, James and others who tried the clear type test.

I've read a bit more about clear type and the blurb says (essentially) that
it's crap at less than 10pt; which is what we're experiencing. I need to
keep Tahoma because of the the foreign language support, so I tentatively
propose to tweak everthing to be 10 pt Tahoma rather than the 8 pt that I
use now.

Thanks for the screen shots etc.

Yes importing via Spreadsheet is fine, but still requires all data to be
typed in.

Normally the race office is at the club or at somebody's house that is
connected to the internet. If a competitor can provide a url formatted
appropriately to import race data, Even if this is in CSV file, then that
data can be imported directly from the web without having to retype
everything.

I have created a sample and made a few changes the way I would personally
prefer them

This is how our series looks published in Sailwave
http://www.greenwichyachtclub.co.uk/racing/sw050519.htm

(I have now noted that the Ratings show up if I use the PY. However the
ratings I use are not in fact PY numbers.)

This is how I would like it to look instead
http://www.greenwichyachtclub.co.uk/racing/sw050519b.htm

Note a few Changes
1. The summary does not show Dates or start times, These are shown when
going to each race and therefore not required in the summary.
2. I have created a link on "Spiced Gold" to show what I mean with Data Page
for the boat. The Idea is for all boats to have a link like this to show
boat details.
3. Instead of the summary showing all the races, it only shows races to
date, The races not raced to date are listed below in order and show race
dates and start times there instead

Terry

I just remembered that I can change the column heading to show Handicap

Sailwave will publish the columns your'e viewing in the mail series view;
view them all to publish everything. (Agree this needs changing so that
screen columns and publish columns are separate, but that's the way it is at
the moment).

I therefore suggest When you enter "Edit Competitor", an additional Tab is

Use the View menu (or the appropriate icon on the toolbar) to hide unsailed
