Hi

I need to set up a series for this weekend where we will use a default ECHO rating for the first race and adjust after each race.

Is this possible in SW and if so How?

Hi Joe,

The answer to that is a bit complicated.

Sailwave even in its simplest form supports using different ratings for each race, and the TCF rating system as used by ECHO

So no problem scoring it with Sailwave the only issue is calculating the revised rating after each race. Up to date documentation of ECHO seems to be non existent and there seems to be some “Black art” in the way it is Calculated in that there is usually some committee which decides when to override the rules of what is documented.

But this is from 2004 and hasn’t been updated as far as I can tell

This was written a couple of years ago to support ECHO with Sailwave and has also been updated to support Pursuit race calculations. This will do the ECHO calculations for you but don’t know what changes have been made to ECHO in the last 2 years.

More recently the RYA have launched NHC which is similar in principle to ECHO but is an open specification. Sailwave supports NHC both using internal calculations and using an automated Excel template.

Using the NHC Excel template mode. The template can be modified to do any Personal handicap calculation and so if you set the template up for ECHO calculations this would be the easiest and efficient way of supporting ECHO although doing it by tomorrow would be unlikely unless you are an Excel wizard and have access to the latest ECHO documentation if it exists.
