Colin is retiring from Sailwave... but Sailwave lives on...

Hi everybody,

Jon Eskdale is taking over as the main developer and I'm dropping

back to support him as needed - with the expectation of that being
less and less over time. I may, with his agreement, also do the
odd tweak.

I've been doing this for about 12 years. It's taken a lot of my

spare time and to be honest I’m sailwaved-out. I’ve tried to
reawaken the early sparkle with web apps and the like but I can’t
sustain it any more.

Jon has masses of developer experience and tons of enthusiasm

for the future of Sailwave.

Thanks for your support over the years.

I have an op coming up and will be out of action for a while.

Hopefully when I’m up and running I’ll be able to help out on the
SUG as a user…

Colin,

I’m sure I speak for everyone on here when I say thank you for the time and effort you have put into sailwave. So many clubs and organisations have come to depend on it.

Thanks again and good luck with your op.

Thank you Colin very much for your excellent work and support! The Martin 242 Fleet in Vancouver, Canada has used sailwave for many years, as has the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, our home port.

Good luck with the op.

Good luck Colin. You have been a major contributor to the sport we all love!

Colin,

Good luck with the op, our prayers are with you from the Carolina’s.

Thank you greatly for all of the hard work on Sailwave.

It is the one area of our sport that has the demands of quickness and accuracy,

place usually all on the shoulders of one person.

Smooth turns

Dan

Colin,

I’m with everyone else on this - you really have made a fantastic solution. Something you can be proud of and something used by almost every club up and down the land.

I’ve never known anyone coming to host an event say “do you have ‘someother results programe’” its always do you have sailwave.

I happened to look at a java results program the other day. open source, it had the potential to be great. Had it not been that I’ve seen/used SW, I’d probably be impressed.

Jon - there are some real geeks hang out round these parts. If there is anything we can do to help I’m sure all thats needed is to ask. Its just a shame the code has to be closed because of what its written on…

Hi All,

It is a great honour to have taken on the new role of looking after Sailwave. Colin has done such a wonderful job that it is going to be very hard to follow in his footsteps. It is going to take me a while to get up to full speed especially as its a new language to learn. So please bear with me a little but feel free to give me a nudge (jon@sailwave.com) if you think I need it. Thanks for the offer of help Calum, and all the others out there that you kindly volunteered. I'm a desktop programmer really as I come from a Hardware background and programming Micro-controllers in assembler. So all you young Web technology programmers feel free to point me at new exciting technologies.

I have a few ideas that I will be working on and if you have ideas that you would like to see let me know (Nothing too difficult to start with please !!!)

I have just done my first edit of the source to fix a bug which Richard kindly reported. Compiled the code, Built a new installer, uploaded it to the website and edited the site so 2.5.3 is available for download now.

I hope together we can keep this the Best scoring program for sailing.

Looking forward to supporting you and for your feedback.
