Hi Ken,
The requirement for a licence key was a surprise to me as I have a
version installed that does not.
So I have done some checking and the version I have installed is an
earlier version of CBS from February 2012, labelled BETA II Version
1.04.4426.33737.
I have also downloaded the latest version and installed that, so I
now have two versions installed. As you I have found with the
version dated 5th May 20102 a licence key is required. The earlier
version I have installed does not.
I do not know what the changed between the earlier version and the
later version.
I have sent an email to someone who might know and answer and is on
the SUG.
FYI - the author of CBS is on a world cruise and not expected back
until sometime in 2015, which is a shame as this software has good
potential.
Kind regards,
Huw

Hi Ken,
Update - I have been in contact with someone who is going to contact
the author and see if it will be possible to provide a solution to
making licence keys available whilst he is sailing the world. So
watch this space for further news!
Kind regards,

Ken,
A bit more information the author is thought to be halfway to the
Marquesas Islands in the Pacific.
Quote from Wikipedia
The Marquesas Islands group is one of the most remote
in the world, lying about 1,371 km (852 mi) northeast of* Tahiti* and about 4,800 kilometres (3,000 mi) away from the west coast
of Mexico, the nearest continental land mass.*

Hi guys,
I guess I’m as close as you’ll get to a software maintainer for CBS right now - the author is halfway between Galapagos and the Marquesas! For armchair cruisers, you can follow his exploits here: http://www.worldcruising.com/world_arc/world_arc_2014_eventlogs.aspx (search for “Celebrate”).
I’ve sent him an email. While he doesn’t have the bandwidth the actually do any fixes to the site or software, he can perhaps give us an idea on what might be done to work around the issue. I have noticed that http://committeeboatsuite.com/install.htm does work, so at least the site isn’t completely down.
Can someone else please try installing the software fresh and see if they have a similar problem?
Hi Andy,
FYI - I downloaded CBS from this link -

I also tried installing it on a new computer, this time from http://www.committeeboatsuite.com/install.htm. This one does an instant install, as opposed to the one we have on the VYC site, which requires download and unzip.
It seems to be working fine - the email license request seemed to go fine, and I did get a key back by email. CBS is still, and will always be, free. Charlie just wanted to have a way of tracking who had actually downloaded and installed the software. That’s all your address will be used for.
Andy
Hi Andy,
I have used the link you gave in your last post to get a copy of
CBS. I have now successfully got a licence key
I have been able to lay a course here in a location in the UK,
actually Pwllheli North Wales, BUT only by adding the lat & long
manually into the first mark position.
Help this can be fixed when author returns and it might help others
testing out the software.
Kind regards,
Huw
