Comparing Ratings Files

Hi Guys, the SailJuice Global Warm Up Series is going to use a new set of PYs. Roughly speaking and as I understand it these new PYs are based upon the handicap it would take for the leading boat of each class to finish equal first.

Sounds good.

I created a ratings file and have been trying to apply it to a handicap series. What I wanted to do was be able to swap back and forth between RYA and Sailjuice to see what effect actually would happen, but I can’t suss out how to do that.

I created a folder within the sailwave directory called sailjuice, put the new ratings file in there, set the ratings path to this directory in global settings and each time I have to go and manually change ‘class’ before it can do anything.

Any thoughts gratefully received.

sailjuicePY2.csv (1.86 KB)

I would have two Sailwave files, one for each system.

It just duplicates the work, but it is easy once set up

Thanks for that Rob, I’ve attached the file I’m working with, but I’m not sure how you mean!

I’ve added the attached file now to the \ratings folder. When I open the series file all the entries have still got the old PY number. Is there a way to simply update all entries to their new PY or do you have to go thru each entry and assign a its new number?

Thanks… confused of Hampshire

I cannot see nay other way than to go through each entry and change the rating.

Then you will have 2 sailwave files, one with each rating, and you can publish results and see the difference

Simon,

Try using the check box on the Rating System tab of the Edit Scoring

System window, i.e click Scoring System button on toolbar to
open window.

Kind regards,

Sorry forgot to say it is the Auto set competitor ratings checkbox,
near bottom left.

Think will do want you want ;-)

Another approach (which I use to compare different rating methods) is to create aliased competitors, who use a different rating (example here ).

In your case you would have a PY fleet (using standard PYs) and a Sailjuice fleet (all aliases of the PY fleet, using the Sailjuice handicaps).

As for rating files, I’ve always found their use a bit flaky, but that’s probably more due to my incompetence than anything to do with SW!
