Competitor entry wizard

Last weekend i was press ganged, at the last minute, to do the results for one of my clubs annual (PY) trophy events. This required the keying in of about 60 competitors. Now i am not a data entry clerk and my typing skills are probably no more or no less proficient than the overwhelming majority here, but 60 competitors in a short space of time was going to be a daunting task to say the least (there was no data available to import). In the end i thought stuff it i’ll just key in ‘class’ and ‘sail number’. This worked perfectly, was completed in a 10th of the usual time and even the competitors could identify themselves from just their class and sail number on the provisional results sheets

When keying in the results using the sail num wizard it occured to me that an express entry wizard would come in very useful for those occassions when you needed to work fast. ie type “La” and up pops “Laser” then tab over to ‘sail number’ and key in sail number. Thats it, basic info entered. If you wanted to put in details later edit in the usual way. Frankly in a one design openmeeting click off the class field and just key in the sail numbers… just think 40 entries keyed in in 3 minutes!!

just a thought.

I've only got my laptop handy at the moment which has only got version 1.43 installed, but that version certainly has very nearly the functionality you're after.

If type the first few characters of the class name into the box (eg "las" for Laser, or "way" for Wayfarer) and then click the drop-down arrow to the right, it scrolls the list straight to that point in the list. After a couple of attempts you'll learn just how few characters you can type for each class to get straight to it.

they seem to be taking a long time to filter through to the product.
