Conflict between NHC and pursuit scoring

Our club uses the NHC system to handicap boats. However, for today’s race, we set up a pursuit course and start with the understanding that the order of finish times would count for scoring. In this case, a boat who would have had 5th place actually finished 3rd. Therefore, I need to move the boat up in the standings per the sailing instructions.

I looked at the tool for reordering finish places, but none of the boats are listed. How do I accomplish this feat?

Am happy to skype if it helps.

In a pursuit race there is no rating or handicapping used. It is a
straight "first to finish" race. Under Setup|Scoring System|Rating
System make sure "None" is checked.

Since all that matters is "finish time" the start times should be zero.
You can put in zero or 00:00:00, it doesn't really matter so long as the
starts are all the same.

Hi Steve - As Art has correctly replied with a Pursuit race, normally the boats start at different times based on their handicap such that they theoretically should all finish at the the same time.
The rearrange recorded position tool is as the name implies is for use in rearranging boats that have a position recorded - in your case you are recording times.

If you could explain in a bit more detail what you are trying to achieve - I will try and assist.

Thank you for your response. I agree with what you have said. However, this is one race in a series, and the only one that is using the pursuit style. What I want to do is use the results to calculate the NHC rating for the next race. I know I can just enter place, then enter in the new rating from this file, but I am trying to do it once. I am already using a different file for the first three races of the series, all under NHC.

The fifth place boat, Eye-Eye, was third across the line. My other problem, is that the fourth place boat is a substitute boat for this helm because of damage in a previous race. If I adjust this rating in the results tab, it gets overwritten the next time I rescore.

My skype is steven.dahlstrom if you want to chat. I am in the Pacific time zone - US. It boils down to not using the same system from race to race, but the club is getting into the variety.
