Conributions to documentation

Hi,

With respect to the recent offers of documentation contributions. I've
simlified and restructurted the 'offical' help file such that it is
essentially reference information with two other sectiions - user guides and
third party user guides. The reference information is directly related to
the implementation so I have to do it, but all Third party user guies
gratefully received. I'll probably link to them in their original form so
that updates are not an issue; i.e. you send me an update, I upload it in
it's native form and no changes are then needed to the help file itself.

Here's what it looks like to far as an e-book:-

www.sailwave.com/stuff/swebook.exe (click on link and sleect open - it's
safe!)

Looks good Colin

Don't know what others think but I would be happy for any contribution I make capable of being added
to by others.

I realise that this is not the normal approach for general docs on the internet but I have yet to
come across an irresponsible SW user & providing the facility to add comments for the benefit of
others is why SUG is so successful.

It also means that I don't have to update 'my' original file when someone else has a useful
contribution to make

Regards
Ralph

Hi Ralph,

I didn't envisage anybody else tweaking contributed documents. What I had
in mind was that I would convert them to PDF and upload them to the Sailwave
web site (only I have write access) and link to them from the help file,
with date and author etc. If the author updated it, s/he would send me a
new copy and I would re-upload it and tweak the link details. Even if these
contributions overlapped in theme I think that would be OK because it's
always useful to gave N perspectives on something. Does that sound OK?

Hi Colin

Just envisaged possibility that over a period of time, a user may need to refer to a number of
documents (click on a number of urls) on the same subject which could be annoying.

I suppose there could be a moderator type role for certain subjects

Wonder what others think?

Hi!
This also applies to earlier versions..

When creating a new scoring system, I wants to remove all inheriting. For a while, I have been able to remove all but 1 item. Today I found out how to remove the last:

In edit scoringsystem, I have to select "Rating system" then "custom" then "Custom rating system" and there I can remove the inherit tick... All this even tough I dont have a rating system, and never planned to make a custom rating system.....

Not a bug, but annoying..

Hi James,

My internal doc has to be in a form to generate a .ch,m so that I can prodie
context sensitive help. But a That could point at a wiki for the other
stuff; as you say it would be organic and self-managing. As long as it
cannot be attached by spammers it's a good plan. I tried one in the past
but there was little security adn ti got trashed (wakkawiki).
