CSV Files and Version Issues

Newbie Alert Sorry:

I am trying to use the SailWave CSV import features to enter race data into the SailWave program instead of using the wizards … while the wizards are easy to use, I totally suck at repetitive tasks … for me, a spreadsheet provides a quick way to enter data with immediate visual feedback … race results are always hand written in a specific order … so … for me, transferring this data to a spreadsheet, provides the best accuracy with the least aggravation

The SailWave CSV Competitor and Results imports work great … what I am wondering is there a way to also enter Race details as a CSV Import? We have 2 to 4 races each race day and while I can import the results easily enough, I am having to enter the Race details in manually … is there a reference document that defines all the FIELDS available for each CSV import specifically for the SERIES import?

Would be really great if there was a matching CSV export for all of these Imports (that could intuitively provide the fields available for each feature) … or … perhaps provide a way to enter race data in spreadsheet mode? (On a spreadsheet I am only having to enter the completion time going down an ordered list)

We are using SailWave version 2.02 build 6 on 2 machines: XP Pro SP3 and Win 7 Home
SP1 … the users are reluctant to move to a newer version as they are happy with this version … my thought was a newer version might provide more CSV details/features … attempted to download the latest version 2-16-7 but even though it installs, it doesn’t appear to run on either OS? … the Sailwave screen flashes up then disappears (WINDOWS EVENT viewer shows no Application Errors … so … have no idea why this install is failing to run). Version 2-5-3 works but I didn’t notice any difference with the CSV features

Hi bxdobs - Yes there have been some improvements in the later version to the CSV imports and also to the Sailno Wizard. The only reason I can think for your new install not running is that may be you have Teamviewer installed - if that is the case please see an earlier post today here on the forum by myself.

The latest version is 2.18.5 on the beta downloads - This looks to be good so go and grab this one.

Although it is totally your choice - If the Sailno Wizard is not making entry of the results a lot easier than entering them into a spread sheet, we must be doing something wrong. In my opinion (and I love Excel) for entering results the Sailno Wizard wins hands down. I would love to hear from you if you think otherwise.

You can also Order the Sailwave in any order and enter the times by pressing F2 the same as you would in Excel (You need to be using the latest version 2.18.5) presumably similar to the way you are currently doing, but then you don’t even need to import.

Race details do need to be entered via Sailwave, although getting more complex, so not recommended for occasional use it is possible to do this via the messaging in the later versions.

In the Help - Reference section you will find the field names.

You can easily create a csv of any data in Sailwave via the File - Export data to clipboard, where you are prompted which data you want to export and this can be directly pasted into a blank Excel spreadsheet from which you can either use it there or save as a CSV.
