Custom Ratings Tag

Hi Chaps,

I have just been updating our ratings file for 2016, we use
Local handicaps to give the slower boats are chance in the strong tides we
have. At present we just modify the
ratings files. I also add a few more
classes for our cats at they receive a different handicap for round the cans
racing. I was wondering if there was any millage in allowing for Custom ratings
to have a label of custom1 custom2 (or in our case GYGSC1 & GYGSC2) etc. We are happy with the PY calculation so just
need to be able to change the TAG used.
(Would really just need to be able to change the TAG.)

I have achieved most of what I require by using CUSTOM as
the rating system and the standard PY calculation of (e * 1000)/r and adding the extra Class for a few boats.

This allows me to change back to none local handicaps if
running an large open meeting without replacing the Rating file.

I thought I would still ask the question as the solution took me a little while to reach and may be of use to others.

Cheers

Keith

Hi Keith,

All the prompts (tags) in the system can be customised by using a “locale” file- this is how people translate all the prompts into another language, but it can of course also be used to specify alternative English prompts. The help for setting up a locate is here:-

Hi

I think you can use the Feature Wind indexed ratings (WindRats). You have to enable it under User Setup/ User interface

Hi Keith,

How do I create and use rating files? - Sailwave
In the Edit+Competitor window the user can select from a list of classes. The content of that list is derived from rating files, as well as the classes already defined within the series. It’s worth taking some time to set up rating files so that classes can be selected from this l…

, on creating ratings files you can already do this. I am sure Jon and/or Colin will correct me if I am wrong on my reading of the help file.

The thing I do find difficult though, is that Sailwave imports all the ratings file located in the folder specified in the Files tab of Global options and if a class appears in more than one rating file it is very difficult to decide which rating one wants as the selection list of classes gives no indication of which entry is from which rating file. Jon perhaps this is something you might be able to do something about in a future release of Sailwave.

Kind regards,

Huw

Hi John,

Thanks for this I did try a local file to rename Texel and USSA Portsmouth as these use the same calculation as the RYA Portsmouth.

The Screen is re-labelled but the Race table and the results still show scoring system Texel, I don’t mind creating a ratings file with Texel as key but the results need to state GYGS Rating. If I just missed something let me know. If not I shall just have to stick with Custom and a different boat class for our other rating system. Local File Below.

Cheers

Keith

RADIO : Texel

= GYGSC

RADIO-TIP : Texel_catamarn_rating_system._c(e*100)/_r

= GYGSC rating system.|| c = (e * 100) / r

RADIO : USSA_Portsmouth

= GYGSC-Long-Distance

RADIO-TIP : USSA_Portsmouth_rating_system.c(e*100)/_r

= GYGSC-Long-Distance rating system.||c = (e * 100) / r

Hi Keith

If I understand correctly your issue the Scoring system name can be anything you like simply edit it at the top of the “Edit scoring system” window

Hi Jon,

Thanks That helps in the Column Heading but still leaves the rating system as Texel eg untranslated.

Cheers

Keith

Hi Keith - You can rename the scoring system to anything you like and you can rename the column headers to anything you like. The rating system will be displayed based upon the radio button you selected in the rating system tab. If you have selected custom then the rating system should display as “Custom”, Your sample infers you have Texel selected
