Custom scoring

Hello,

Can anyone tell me how to do the following scoring:

1 point for each boat beaten to a maximum of 4 points per race.

The first part is s-p, how do you set the maximum part?

Thank you.

Hi Dave,

I have a feeling I've misinterpreted you but if the max is 4 points, s-p
will not work for say 10 starters... Instead you could use the custom high
point list with 4,3,2,1 i.e. 1st is 4 point, 2nd is 3 points, 3rd is 2
points, 4th and all succeeding places is 1 pt. A system that only rewards
excellence...!

The custome points will work, but If the max is 4 points per race. Then 1st through 6th place will be 4 points, 7th 3pts, 8th 2pts, 9th 1pt and 10th 0pts.

When entering boat type, could a check box be added for "Spinnaker". If a
boat does not carry a Spinnaker, according RYA PY, she gets 40 added to her
PY.

That said however, a boat like a Enterprise does not carry a spinnaker ever,
so if this box is unchecked on entry, she should not get the 40 point
advantage.

Would also be handy if a column could be added to results to show which
boats entered the series declaring a spinnaker.

Terry

Hi Terry
Not sure which member of the RYA gave you this advice but to my knowledge, it is not a 'rule' issued
by the PY advisory Group. All I can think of is that they gave you a differential for a specific
class of boat, not a general rule across all classes.

The method to use is to ascertain the PY for with & without kite then enter them as two different
class types in the ratings list.

It is also quite rare for a dinghy to be issued with two PYs as the system relies upon clubs sending
in returns for the two configurations. If you come across this problem regularly, you will probably
need to calculate your own club PY when a kite is not being used.

Ralph

Both the RYA and the USPN ratings systems use modifications formulaes for changes to the one design configuration. Currently, I create several new classes in sailwave for the popular modifications that sailors are using. For instance, Nacra 6.0 NA w spin versus the Nacra 6.0 NA . I calulate the rating with excel and import the wind speed adjusted rating set. Now i have two nacra6.0's in the rating database. Our CRAC fleet uses the weight adjustments as well. therefore I calculate the new rating for each level... eg H1 and create another entry in the database Nacra 6.0 sp H1 and so one. In the end, I have 4 rating entries in the database for Nacra 6.0 NA with Spin. Not to mention the Nacra 6.0NA H1 to H3 set of ratings. We usally don't have anyone racing single handed on sloop boats or many people underweight so I don't add the L1, L2, or L3, corrections for both boats. Now of course, the 6.0 NA has been modified with a square top main..... and a larger jib. So. These ratings are now calculated and entered into the database. (Its a mess)

Obviously, I would love a window that would open on a button called modify one design rating which would open up a check box of all of the modification factors used, cacluate the wind adjusted ratings use them for the regatta and some how note the changes to the ratings in either the notes section or the boat type in the results pages.

I hate to be greedy though!

Thanks Colin

This must currently be handled by having to ebtries in your rating file,
with and w/o sponny. However I have a nice little tweak planned to allow an
arbitrary number of competitor rating parameters to be defined by the user
and then evaluated suring the rating calculation. It's in the dev plan.

"Add competitor field for rating params; e.g. "A=34,Wt=34Kg,LOA=13.4m" and
allow the sub-field names (in this case A,Wt,LOA) to be used in rating
expressions."
