Database to collate competitors across series files

Hello James/Colin,

I'd be grateful if any database being considered could be in a format
that would allow say, easy MS Word type mail merge i.e. a .CSV file
(comma delimited). Previously I've gone the route suggested by Gil but
find I am limited to the number of fields inherent in the .BLW file
format. My guess is more versatality is what you're aiming at and yes, a
database would be a very useful add-on for us. I would like at least
12-15 user named fields, Sail #, Name, Club, . . . as well as e-mail
address, home phone, subs paid (y/n) . . . etc. Presumably whichever
database software one uses subsequently could do a limited error check
(eg ages between 10 & 20 yrs for a youth regatta)?

Would it be possible to associate a picture field (.jpg file) with each
entry?

Hi Rob,
The technology I'm proposing (using Perl as the language), will
allow a variety of formats - chosen by the user. Tab-delimited
(which Word can use, I think) would be preferable to comma-
delimited, but CSV will also be available.

(It will also be possible to store in an XML database, for the
adventurous).

Give me a list of the fields you would like - and the validations
you want (i.e. age for juniors etc.), and I'll take them into
consideration. Yes, should be able to associate JPG files.
